Job Description

Vermont State University Online seeks an adjunct instructor to teach a 3-credit Business course during the Spring 2027 semester between 1/19/2027-5/16/2027.  The course will be taught 100% online using Canvas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

VTSU Online uses Canvas and provides a generic course template for all courses. The instructor is responsible for adding outcomes, academic materials, discussion and assignment that support  the course description. Additionally, VTSU Online instructors are obligated to adhere to the VTSU Online Standards that address instructor presence, student engagement, instructor expectations, and assessment of student work.

Course description:

An introductory course to provide a knowledge and awareness of the scope and terminology of the American legal system as it pertains to business organizations. Topics emphasized may include criminal law, tort law, forms of doing business, law of contracts, sales, real and personal property law, negotiable instruments, Uniform Commercial Code, and agency relationships.  General education: This course fulfills the Social Science general education requirement.

Qualifications:

For consideration, candidates must possess at least a master's degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience.  For consideration, candidates must possess at least a master’s degree in a related discipline.  A minimum of five years of experience teaching fully online, asynchronous courses is required, along with demonstrated familiarity with adult learning theory.  Experience with Canvas is preferred.  Faculty are responsible for designing their own course with the full support of an instructional designer and the structured VTSU Online Canvas Template.  Instructors are expected to add weekly content including outcomes, readings, videos, discussions, and assessments in alignment with the course description, and follow and VTSU Online Standards of course design, readiness, instructor presence, engagement, assessment, and accessibility.  The full course must be ready and published at least one week prior to the start of the semester.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, a letter of reference, academic transcript, and statement of commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.  Compensation is dependent upon online teaching experience (within and outside of the Vermont State Colleges System) and bargaining unit status; the starting range is between $1000-1250 per credit.
