Role Summary:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on conveyors, material handling equipment, batteries, chargers, electrical systems, and facility infrastructure throughout the distribution center. This role combines electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and building maintenance expertise to ensure equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and workplace safety.

What you'll be doing:

  • Perform preventative and emergency maintenance on conveyors, lift equipment, chargers, batteries, and other material handling systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Conduct general facility maintenance, including overhead doors, gates, flooring, construction repairs, and light plumbing projects.
  • Utilize schematics, blueprints, vendor manuals, and technical documentation to diagnose and repair equipment issues.
  • Perform various carpentry and fabrication projects to support facility operations.
  • Order repair parts and materials with supervisor approval to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Assist with troubleshooting motor control systems, automated equipment, and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Work safely at heights and in various facility environments while adhering to all Staples safety policies.
  • Support and mentor junior technicians by sharing knowledge and assisting with daily assignments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to quickly resolve operational issues and maintain productivity.

  • Mechanical aptitude with knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation systems.

What's needed- Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance, industrial, manufacturing, distribution center, or related experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, motor controls, and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Ability to work with electrical systems up to 480VAC.
  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and maintenance-related tools.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 60 feet.
  • Ability to work a 12-hour shift schedule, including overtime as needed.

What's needed- Preferred Qualifications:

  • Trade school certification or technical school training.
  • Material handling equipment certification.
  • Experience with conveyor systems and automated distribution center equipment.
  • Experience programming logic devices or troubleshooting automated control systems.
  • Welding, fabrication, or construction repair experience.
  • Experience in a large-scale distribution center, warehouse, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of battery maintenance, chargers, and powered industrial equipment.

Additional Work Environment Information:

  • Work at heights up to 60 feet.
  • Exposure to welding fumes, grinding dust, vibration from power tools, and heated surfaces.
  • Regular exposure to maintenance-related chemicals, including battery acid, lubricants, paints, cleaning solvents, and detergents.
  • 12-hour shift schedule with scheduled breaks and meal periods.
  • Additional overtime may be required during peak business periods.
