Position Summary:

Washington Gas is hiring a Systems Technician to support and maintain our mission‑critical radio and wireless communications systems. This role is ideal for technicians with experience in land mobile radio (LMR), RF systems, microwave communications, or wireless networks-especially those who enjoy hands‑on field work and solving complex signal and connectivity issues.

You'll play a key role in keeping our communication systems reliable, safe, and operational across campuses and remote sites. This is a technical, field‑driven role supporting the infrastructure that keeps our operations running.

What You'll Do:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain radio & wireless communications systems including:
  • Trunked land mobile radio (LMR)
  • RF & spread spectrum systems
  • Digital microwave & multiplex systems
  • Fixed & mobile voice and data networks
  • Perform radio frequency (RF) troubleshooting, system diagnostics, and equipment repair using test & analysis tools.
  • Install and maintain fiber infrastructure (indoor, outdoor, and underground) across campuses and remote locations.
  • Remove, replace, and support servers used in wireless communications networks.
  • Conduct signal strength, coverage, and path surveys for two‑way radio and wireless systems using specialized test equipment and software.
  • Evaluate coverage needs and install access points, antennas, and coverage units.
  • Support LAN and WAN connectivity, assisting with wiring issues and network troubleshooting.
  • Maintain clean, organized wiring fields and assist with minor communication facility upgrades or renovations.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors, wire crews, and customers for site access, testing, and job completion.
  • Complete required documentation, testing records, and system reporting.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation and support scheduled and emergency repairs as needed.

Additional duties may include cross‑functional support, backend system processing, safety observations, training activities, and equipment or vehicle maintenance.

What You Bring/Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
  • Either:
  • 1 + year of experience as an electronics or radio technician, OR
  • 2+ years of relevant technician training with hands-on exposure to trunked radio, RF, microwave, or multiplex systems
  • Working knowledge of RF systems and radio communications including:
  • Trunked radio systems
  • Microwave communications
  • Analog and digital signal principles
  • Experience using electronic test and diagnostic tools such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and ethernet, fiber, & voice modulation equipment.
  • Understanding of communications protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, analog and digital systems).
  • Comfortable working with PC‑based software, documentation tools, and basic network diagnostics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to complete all required training, exams, and field clearances
  • Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid Driver License.
  • One or more of the following:
  • FCC General Radio Telephone License
  • PCIA Certification
  • Certification from a recognized electronics or communications training program
  • Net+ Certification preferred

Use of Personal Vehicle: As Required
