Women Veterans Coordinator

This position is for a Women Veterans Coordinator for the Veterans Services Division.

Annual Salary: $58,500.00

BASIC PURPOSE:

This classification under administrative direction, plans, organizes and directs the Oklahoma Women Veterans program. This shall be to ensure that women veterans in the State of Oklahoma have equitable access to federal and state veteran's benefits and services.

Typical Functions:

  • Advocate for women veterans and work to increase public awareness about the gender-specific needs of woman veterans.
  • Recommend legislative initiatives and the development of policies on the local, state, and national levels to address issues affecting woman veterans.
  • Collaborate with federal, state, county, and municipal governments and with private organizations that provide services to women veterans.
  • Disseminate information regarding opportunities for women veterans throughout the network of entities with which the program collaborates.
  • Attend conferences, seminars and training workshops to provide guidance and direction to women veterans who are applying for grants, benefits, or services.
  • Review programs, research projects, and other initiatives designed to address the needs of women veterans.
  • Monitor and research issues relating to women veterans. Make recommendations to the Executive Director regarding the improvement of benefits and services to women veterans.
  • Incorporate issues concerning women veterans in Department planning regarding veterans benefits and services.
  • Submit by November 1st of each even-numbered year a report to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Oklahoma Veterans Commission, and the Legislature that shows the estimate number of women veterans in the state, number of women veterans who contact the Department for assistance, and identifies the unique problems faced by women veterans.
  • Perform outreach and public speaking to improve Women Veterans' awareness of eligibility for federal and state benefits and services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of the position and agency operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of unique issues and challenges faced by Women Veterans. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and programs related to veterans' benefits and services, particularly those related to Women Veterans; knowledge regarding organizations that assist Women and Women Veterans.

Ability to learn and apply agency policies and procedures and federal and state laws, rules, and regulations; research, develop and present programs or opportunities to women veterans; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to interpret and apply policy, to exchange information and ideas, to solicit ideas and to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to assess the needs, challenges, and unique issues of Women Veterans and make recommendations regarding existing benefits and services.

Minimum Qualifications/Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field; minimum of two (2) years' experience working with federal and state veterans or military programs, benefits, and services, preferably on issues related to Women Veterans; Candidates must possess sufficient proficiency in the English language to perform the essential functions of the position.

Special Requirements: Applicants must be a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces discharged under honorable conditions and must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.

This position has been designated as exempt from the civil service rules established by the Civil Service and Human Capital Modernization.
