Workers’ Compensation Legal Assistant
Location: Atlanta, GA Position Type: Full-Time – Legal Support StaffReports To: Workers’ Compensation Attorneys / Team Lead
About the Role
The Workers’ Compensation Legal Assistant provides essential administrative and litigation support to attorneys in the Workers’ Compensation group. This role requires excellent organizational skills, a strong grasp of legal processes, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic law-firm environment. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative setting, demonstrates attention to detail, and contributes effectively to a team handling workers’ compensation and related defense work.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and draft legal documents, correspondence, cover sheets, and transmittals related to workers’ compensation defense matters.
Manage case files, including opening new matters, tracking deadlines, calendar management, and closing cases.
Prepare settlement agreements, file pleadings, and coordinate document production and service.
Transmit, review, and organize legal documents received from courts, clients, opposing counsel, and regulatory bodies.
Maintain and update internal case management systems, including critical dates, court filings, and deadlines.
Answer phones and assist clients, carriers, and other parties with routine inquiries regarding case status and scheduling.
Coordinate scheduling for hearings, mediations, depositions, attorney meetings, and other case events.
Assist with legal research and ensure proper filing of documents in accordance with local court rules and procedures.
Support attorneys and paralegals in preparing for trials, hearings, and client deliverables.
Note: Duties may be adjusted based on firm needs and evolving case priorities. (
Required Qualifications
Prior experience as a legal assistant or legal support staff, preferably in a defense practice or workers’ compensation environment.
Strong familiarity with legal terminology, court procedures, and litigation support.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and legal case management software.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time effectively while handling competing priorities.
Preferred Attributes
Experience supporting litigation teams (document preparation, research, discovery tracking).
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to high-quality work product.
Experience with electronic filing systems and calendar management tools.
