Job Description

At Postman Law we are dedicated to creating a workplace where passionate professionals can make a real difference. Our team of experienced personal injury attorneys and case staff work together to advocate for individuals who have been wronged or injured. We guide clients through every step of their journey to ensure they receive the justice and compensation they deserve. Our mission is to achieve exceptional results for our clients, drive innovation in the practice of law, and pursue unparalleled excellence in everything we do.

Purpose: Postman Law is seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation Paralegal to support our attorneys in managing Illinois workers’ compensation claims. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act, Commission procedures, and claim management best practices. This role is best suited for a professional who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and dedicated to providing exceptional client service throughout the claim process.

This full-time position will work a hybrid schedule out of our downtown Chicago office (3 days per week in the office and 2 days remote). The compensation for this role, depending on experience, is an annual base salary of $60,000 to $80,000 per year, plus a year-end discretionary bonus and benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Claim Management: Oversee and manage a high volume of Illinois workers’ compensation claims from intake through resolution. Maintain accurate files, monitor deadlines, and ensure compliance with all Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) requirements.
  • Client Communication: Serve as a primary contact for clients, providing updates on claim status, explaining the claims process, and addressing client questions with empathy and professionalism.
  • Document Preparation: Draft and prepare claim-related documents including applications for adjustment of claim, medical summaries, settlement contracts, correspondence, and status reports.
  • Filing necessary documents to open a claim with the commission.
  • Medical Record Review: Collect, organize, and summarize medical records. Identify key information related to causation, treatment, and permanent partial disability.
  • Insurance and Employer Coordination: Communicate with insurance adjusters, nurse case managers, employers, and opposing counsel to exchange information, coordinate benefits, and move claims forward efficiently.
  • Scheduling: Coordinate medical evaluations, client appointments, and settlement conferences. Maintain accurate calendars for attorneys and ensure timely completion of all claim-related tasks.
  • Settlement Support: Assist attorneys in preparing settlement demands, calculating benefits, and drafting settlement contracts for Commission approval.
  • Compliance: Ensure all work aligns with Illinois Workers’ Compensation laws, Commission rules, and firm protocols.

Skills:

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple cases, deadlines, and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive client relationships.
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain organized case records and documents.
  • Proficiency in legal case management software, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and e-filing systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Workers’ Compensation Paralegal role or similar experience in a high-volume Workers’ Compensation practice preferred.
  • ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate preferred.
