Job Description

Pay $18 - $20 an hour

The Workers Compensation Representative (Safety Specialist) is responsible for assisting with the professional administration and communication of the agency's employee incident/injury management program, including administration of worker's compensation benefits and return to work. In addition, the responsibilities of the position include developing and maintaining the HRIS software functionality, creating and generating standard and customized reports, recommending system improvements, maintaining system integrity and documentation, training end users, participating in agency activities and ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and operating standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assists with the agency's self-insured worker's compensation program; ensuring proper reporting of claims per NYS worker's compensation guidelines.
  • Corresponds with physician offices to determine employee work-eligibility.
  • Assists with employee leave of absence related to worker's compensation, including employee conferencing, communicating updates, researching/resolving issues, processing claims, and ensuring proper benefits.
  • Confers with department heads regarding employee injury reports and worker's compensation leaves of absence.
  • Investigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending and developing preventative safety measures.
  • Assists with site visit inspections and reports.
  • Maintain all required documentation.
  • Participates in meetings on a regular basis as needed at all locations to identify issues, concerns and needs; obtain employee opinions and suggestions

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree preferred in risk management, occupational health, case management, or related field.
  • 2 years' experience in medical finance, case management, insurance processing, and/or risk management.
  • Must be able to communicate effective, both orally and in writing.
  • Must have a valid NYS Driver's license.
