Position Summary

Connecticut State Community College offers two-year liberal arts degree programs and a broad range of career, occupational and technical certificate and short-term programs in order to meet the varied learning needs of the populations served. Among those programs are workforce development and continuing education courses in subject areas which assist learners in improving and increasing their skills in occupational and professional fields as well as programs for personal interest or enrichment. Some of these programs include training and education services for state agencies. Several of the programs are conducted during evenings or weekends for the convenience of learners.

The position performs administrative services for workforce development and continuing education programs and courses at a Community College Campus. The work encompasses such services as assessing public interests in workforce development and continuing education, course development, publicity, program administration and program evaluation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Coordinator is accountable for administration of the Campus workforce development and continuing education programs and courses through effective performance in these essential duties:

Key responsibilities include:

  • Program planning and development
  • Administrative services
  • Publicity and marketing
  • Program evaluation

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an appropriately related field, one (1) or more years of experience applying those disciplines in a field related to education administration, business, or training and development; or a combination of education, training, and experience that would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Training program design in an adult/youth learning environment
  • Academic and office administration
  • Marketing, publicity writing or a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of experience developing and coordinating non-credit allied health training curriculum standards preferably in a community college setting
  • Two (2) or more years of proven success developing and organizing allied health student clinical or externship placements ensuring compliance with healthcare site requirements
  • Two (2) or more years of experience developing and maintaining regional and statewide partnerships with industry and community stakeholders (i.e. hospitals, long term care facilities, state workforce boards, healthcare employers)
  • Current knowledge of Connecticut healthcare workforce needs and industry trends, health career pathways and grant funded workforce programs, and regulatory compliance.
  • RN/LPN or industry recognized healthcare credentials relevant to programs (C N A, Phlebotomy especially)
  • Proficiency with: Learning management systems (publisher sites, Blackboard, Ultra), and experience incorporating technology to enhance the learning environment.
  • Ability to support first-generation students, adult learners, career changers, immigrants, veterans, and underrepresented populations.

Selection Process
