Job Description
Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Camp Director, the Sports Coach is integral in developing and leading the multi-sports programs at our summer camp. This role involves creating diverse and engaging sports activities, managing group dynamics, maintaining communication with parents, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols and the YMCA of South Florida's Risk Management policies.
Essential Functions Job Duties:
- Design and implement a variety of age-appropriate sports activities and routines that cater to different skill levels and sports interests including but not limited to: Basketball, Flag Football, Softball, and Soccer.
- Develop detailed lesson plans focusing on skills development, teamwork, and sportsmanship in various sports.
- Foster a supportive environment that promotes self-esteem, confidence, and positive interaction among participants.
- Maintain consistent and clear communication with parents and other stakeholders about the program and participants' progress.
- Collaborate with facility staff to ensure optimal utilization of sports facilities and maintain a cooperative relationship.
- Inspect and secure all sports equipment and facilities to ensure they are safe and functional.
- Work closely with the Camp Director to ensure compliance with all YMCA standards and policies.
- Document daily behavioral issues and incidents, ensuring proper staff-to-child ratios are maintained.
- Adapt the program to meet the diverse needs and interests of participants, including their abilities and developmental requirements.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the Camp Director

Qualifications Skills and Abilities/ Position Requirements:
- A high school diploma or GED, o Previous experience in sports instruction highly preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age.
- A minimum of two (2) years work experience with school aged children.
- Ability to relate to both children and adults; understand, practice and model YMCA Character Development values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
- Must be able to Implement curriculums and provide instruction to participants at a basic level.
- Must excel in both written and verbal communication.
- Excellent Interpersonal skills, ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
- Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
It is the incumbents' responsibility to complete and maintain all/necessary certifications within the proper timeframe, as set forth by either the licensing agency, the State of Florida, as set forth by either the licensing agency, or the YMCA of South Florida.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work with outside whether conditions. The employee occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Works in an indoor/outdoor environment.
- Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold work on slippery or uneven surfaces.
- The noise lever in the work environment is usually loud.
- Will be required to drive for meetings, trainings, and other work-related duties.
- Exposure to viruses blood borne pathogens that require use of personal protective equipment.
