Hourly Rate of Pay $18.00-$23.00 . Final compensation is based on factors such as the skills, qualifications, and experience.
Essential Responsibilities
The Youth Development Coordinator, regardless of program area, is responsible for the following essential duties:
- Collaborate with the Youth Development Director to plan, implement, and influence program staff and operations in assigned areas
- Coordinates staff scheduling in assigned areas, including providing front-line support when needed
- Maintains consistent, continuing, and accurate communication with Youth Development Director and member services staff concerning program issues, supplies, schedule changes, staffing, participant concerns and other pertinent information, including reporting and documenting incidents as required.
- Adjusts work schedule to meet the needs of the program and provide opportunities to shadow, coach, and train staff performance at all available program timeslots including evenings and weekends.
- Assists in marketing and distribution of program information
- Performs other duties as may be required by supervisors for the benefit of the program(s).
Youth Sports Programs
- Plans, implements, and evaluates the daily operations of youth sports programs
- Provides direct support for sports staff and volunteers, including ensuring that all volunteers working with children follow YMCA of Delaware online volunteer application process and complete all required training prior to serving in our programs
- Supports Youth Development Director in hiring process by attending interviews
- Creates new sports skills, clinics, and league opportunities based on community needs
- Collaborate with the Youth Development Director or Camp Director to plan and support youth sports camps
- Works effectively with other program directors to develop schedules for programs and gym member usage
Youth Enrichment / Family Engagement Programs
- With direction from the Youth Development Director and assistance from program staff, supervises program participants, facility, and all activities related to auxiliary youth enrichment programs including but not limited to: Art, STEM, Super Sitters, Family Nights, Home School Programs, Clubs, Birthday Parties, Ninja, and more.
- Develop curriculum and lesson plans for all program areas
- Acquaint children and families with the rules, activities, and daily schedules of the program
- Works effectively with other program directors to develop schedules for programs
- Seeking to establish new program activities and expands current programs within the community
- Monitors program statistical reports and assure attendance documentation by staff to evaluate program effectiveness and participation
- Collaborate with the Youth Development Director or Camp Director to plan and support youth specialty camps
Kids Club Programs
- Oversee all aspects of the Kids' Club program.
- Creates, plans, implements, uploads and actively participates in daily age-appropriate classroom activities to ensure all children are provided with an opportunity to learn.
- Coordinate staff scheduling and support staff training/learning and development.
- Ensure all staff adhere to Kids' Club and YMCA policies and procedures.
- Supervise the children, group, and all activities assigned while exhibiting safe, healthy, developmentally appropriate childcare practices.
- Provide daily care for children including supporting social/emotional needs.
- Encourage, engage, and support children in all classroom activities including instructional times, transitions, and gross motor activities.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, branch administration, and parents to develop & maintain positive relationships that encourage collaboration and consistency.
- Ensure the facility and all equipment is clean, well-maintained, and safe on a daily basis.
- Attend and actively participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development trainings.
- Serves as an active member of the leadership team including participating in: leadership meetings, community and fundraising events and other assignments as requested.
- Serves as a role model to staff and volunteer teams to foster relationship building and to provide members, staff, volunteers, and guests with an exceptional level of customer service.
Minimum Qualifications
The Youth Development Coordinator, regardless of program area, must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Minimum age of 21. Must be at least 4 years older than any child in the individual's direct care.
- Successful completion of a criminal history, child abuse & adult abuse background check as required by the State of Delaware.
- Have knowledge and/or experience in a variety of techniques and approaches of supervising staff and leading groups of children.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community
Youth Sports Programs
- Previous experience in coaching, teaching, or working with children in a recreational sports setting (1-2 years preferred)
- Previous experience in organizing and supervising youth sports leagues and programs (1-2 years preferred)
Youth Enrichment Programs
- Previous experience in teaching or leading youth programs, workshops, or events (1-2 years preferred)
- Previous experience in organizing and coordinating youth programs or events (1-2 years preferred)
Kids Club Programs
- 12 months of experience working with children ages six weeks to 12 years in a group setting and have knowledge of child and infant care & age-appropriate activities.
- Complete 12 hours of early childhood or youth development training (DIEEC) within 60 days of hire
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community.
- Successful completion of a criminal history, child abuse & adult abuse background check as required by the State of Delaware.
- Complete a physical & tuberculosis screening and provide a physician's documentation of both within 30 days of hire.
