Help Young People Prepare for Careers and Life After High School

RISE Services is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and engaging Youth Job Coach to help students with disabilities explore careers, develop workplace skills, gain real-world experience, and prepare for employment and life after high school.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with teenagers and young adults and wants to help students become more confident, independent, and prepared for their futures.

Depending on the students you support, you may spend your day helping someone create their first resume, practice for a job interview, explore career options, learn workplace expectations, visit a local employer, participate in a work experience, or develop skills needed for greater independence.

A bachelor's degree is not required.

Previous Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) experience is not required. Training is provided.

What You'll Help Students Accomplish

Youth Job Coaches work individually and in small groups with students, generally ages 14–21, who have disabilities, IEPs, Section 504 Plans, or other qualifying support needs.

You will help students:

  • Explore careers that match their interests, strengths, and abilities.

  • Learn how to search and apply for jobs.

  • Create resumes and complete employment applications.

  • Practice interviewing and communicating with employers.

  • Develop teamwork, communication, punctuality, and problem-solving skills.

  • Understand workplace expectations and professional behavior.

  • Build confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills.

  • Explore college, vocational training, apprenticeships, and other postsecondary options.

  • Participate in workplace tours, informational interviews, job shadowing, and approved work experiences.

  • Prepare for successful work-based learning experiences.

  • Obtain work permits and complete other employment-related steps when needed.

  • Develop practical skills that support successful transitions into adulthood.

What You'll Do

Career & Employment Preparation

  • Provide engaging, individualized career-readiness and employment activities.

  • Help students identify strengths, interests, preferences, abilities, and employment goals.

  • Teach practical job-search and employment-readiness skills.

  • Assist with resumes, applications, and interview preparation.

  • Conduct mock interviews and other career-development activities.

  • Help students understand different careers and pathways to employment.

  • Teach workplace communication, professional behavior, and problem-solving.

Work-Based Learning & Community Activities

  • Help students prepare for work-based learning experiences.

  • Support students during approved workplace and community experiences.

  • Coordinate activities with employers and community partners.

  • Help students understand employer expectations and workplace culture.

  • Provide coaching and support that promotes increasing independence.

  • Participate in career exploration activities, workplace tours, and other community-based learning opportunities.

Individualized Student Support

  • Adapt instruction and activities to each student's abilities, communication style, interests, and support needs.

  • Build positive and professional relationships with teenagers and young adults.

  • Help students identify and overcome barriers to employment.

  • Encourage self-advocacy, confidence, and independent decision-making.

  • Teach practical skills in ways that are engaging and relevant to each student.

Communication & Documentation

  • Communicate professionally with students, families, schools, employers, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and other team members.

  • Coordinate services around school schedules and student availability.

  • Complete progress notes and required service documentation accurately and on time.

  • Maintain appropriate participant records.

  • Complete timesheets and required reports.

  • Participate in meetings, training, supervision, and quality-assurance activities.

  • Follow confidentiality requirements, organizational policies, and applicable vocational rehabilitation program requirements.
