Your day as a Youth Transition Specialist

As a Full-Time Youth Transition Specialist at Life A Center for Independent Living, you will take on the exciting challenge of building a brand-new youth program for individuals with disabilities aged 10 to 24. This groundbreaking opportunity allows you to create and implement engaging initiatives that empower young people, fostering their independence and growth. You will collaborate with stakeholders, parents, and most importantly the youth themselves to develop tailored strategies that meet their unique needs and aspirations. This role not only allows you to showcase your innovative ideas but also gives you the chance to make a lasting impact in the community.

To thrive as a Full-Time Youth Transition Specialist at Life A Center for Independent Living, a diverse skill set is essential. Its strongly encouraged but not required to possess personal experience with disabilities to connect authentically with the youth you support. Highly organized and detail-oriented, you will manage program development while ensuring effective collaboration with community resources. Strong computer literacy and adaptability will help you navigate various tools, including Microsoft Office products. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are crucial for engaging with youth, families, and stakeholders, while public speaking and teaching skills will enable you to lead workshops and presentations confidently.

A deep understanding of the Independent Living Philosophy, coupled with stellar interpersonal skills, will foster trust and rapport. You must demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently, with flexible hours to accommodate travel to southeast Idaho schools and community engagement activities. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are also required for this role.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Personal experience with disability preferred;
  • Highly organized and detail oriented;
  • Knowledge of local community services and resources;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team;
  • Computer literacy and adaptability;
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Understanding of and commitment to the Independent Living Philosophy;
  • High level of initiative and ability to work effectively with minimum supervision;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Public speaking skills.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read write and speak in English
  • Have basic skills in Microsoft Office products and Windows.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Travel to southeast Idaho schools.
  • Ability to use office equipment
  • Must show initiative
  • Must be able to work independently and have good people skills.
  • Public speaking skills is preferred
  • Teaching skills is beneficial
  • Experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must have a good driving record and pass a background check.
