As a Child Protection Specialist, you will play a critical role in enhancing the well-being of Montana families. You will engage directly with families facing a wide range of challenges, investigating child abuse, providing support, advocacy, and connection to vital resources. Essential Functions: This is intended to describe the position but does not cover every function or task that may be required. Conducts timely assessments of reports of child maltreatment, in accordance with requirements of state and federal statutes and agency policy, using standardized safety assessment tools and decision-making guides. Carries a caseload and keeps all case file documentation current. Works collaboratively with law enforcement, other welfare professionals, and agencies. Prepares for and testifies in court, preliminary hearings, multi-disciplinary team meetings, family partnership meetings, and court hearings. Places child(ren) in out-of-home care, when necessary, and ensures that the placement is safe and complies with statutory and policy preferences and is in the best interests of the child(ren). Identifies available resources and connects families and children to these resources. Assures child(ren) is evaluated and assessed to determine medical and psychological needs throughout the case. Prepares assessments, designs case plans, evaluates the progress of participants, and makes and monitors appropriate placements. This role requires frequent travel and conducting in home visits and interviews, and may include out-of-state travel, which will require the willingness to have appropriate travel documents. While you have a standard schedule, there will be times when critical business needs will require work during evenings, weekends, or holidays. Typical Duties: Inspectors collect agricultural samples of potato tubers, ensuring representative sampling and inspections of potato tubers to determine overall quality and grade for certification purposes. This involves inspecting representative samples and comparing characteristics (e.g., size, shape, decay, soft rot, etc.) with grading standards and tolerance levels. Compiles and calculates numerical grading results to determine overall grade and issues official certificates declaring the grade of the potatoes. Maintains regular communications with growers to assess inspection needs, respond to questions, and provide advice and assistance related to shipping certification. Personal vehicle travel to an assigned location and travel between inspection locations will be required. Approved mileage will be reimbursed at established government rates. Document and report all growers, locations, miles, and time daily to record inspection activities and provide information for wages and expenses incurred. Inspectors maintain records of inspections, certifications, and related program data to ensure accuracy and availability of current information. Potato inspection seasons vary depending on location and may run from early-February or March through April and into May, hours may vary depending upon season, location, and growers. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in required discipline or ability to become certified within given timeframe. Valid driver's license. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. Minimum Physical/Mental Requirements: Must be able to qualify for federal/state license for inspection of potatoes. Training will be provided to successful applicants. Ability to apply state and federal regulations, policies and procedures governing inspection and sampling. This position supports the Child and Family Services Division Region 6 which includes the following cities: Kalispell, Thompson Falls, and Libby. Work locations will vary depending on availability and community needs.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase July 1, 2026.
