In response to our continued growth, Woodard & Curran offers a unique opportunity to join our Montana team in our Remediation Practice, which provides high‑quality civil and environmental engineering, remediation, and restoration services to commercial and industrial clients throughout the U.S. We are seeking a motivated, growth‑oriented professional with strong technical experience to lead remediation system selection, design, and evaluation, while providing guidance and mentorship to a talented team of engineers and scientists. This role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, a commitment to sound engineering practices, and a passion for innovation and technical excellence in the remediation field. This position will have a strong civil and remediation engineering focus. Key responsibilities include stormwater design, site development, excavation design, capping design, elevation grading work, dewatering and treatment design, construction support, cost estimation, preparation of specifications, design packages, drawings, and quantity takeoffs. The role may be filled at the Sr. Site Civil/Remediation Engineer or Civil/Remediation Engineer level. While remediation work incorporates a scientific component, we are particularly interested in candidates with a Professional Engineer (PE) license. CERCLA/Superfund experience is highly valuable, though not required, as we have strong regulatory expertise within the team. In this role, the successful candidate will primarily provide civil and environmental engineering support on remediation and mine site restoration projects throughout the Western United States. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in investigation, remedial design, and restoration efforts associated with complex remediation and construction projects. Experience with Superfund sites, former mine site reclamation/remediation, oil and gas well closures, and interactions with regulators is preferred. You will lead the technical delivery and QA/QC of services across multiple projects, be familiar with local and federal regulations, and support marketing and proposal development. The position requires a strong communicator with demonstrated ability to develop, lead, and mentor project teams. You will collaborate closely with a diverse and highly skilled group of client managers, project managers, external consultants, and Woodard & Curran engineers, scientists, geologists, and project administrative professionals to deliver exceptional results. You will also contribute to delivery system improvement programs and help lead Practice initiatives. Function as the technical lead, serve as Engineer of Record for certain projects, and determine the overall technical approach for remediation and restoration services projects of all sizes. Provide engineering and design support for multiple projects. Coordinate the planning and implementation of environmental investigations across all media. Prepare feasibility studies. Remedial implementation (construction support, permitting, design clarifications). Develop, coordinate, and provide field oversight of pre-design investigations. Plan and implement treatability studies and pilot tests. Evaluate remediation performance and subsurface conditions. Analyze data and prepare and review technical reports, plans, calculations, drawings, figures, and technical specifications using accepted engineering practices and procedures. Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others. Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables. Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects. Perform quality control review of calculations or drawings. Ensure the technical quality of the work product delivered. Interface with and prepare reports for clients and regulatory agencies. Prepare construction bid packages. Implement Construction quality assurance and quality control principles and practices. Support project managers with tasks including budgeting, schedule, scope development, and cost tracking. Prepare and deliver presentations and training programs to internal and external clients and professional associations. Mentor staff and aid the development of the next generation of engineers and technical managers within the Remediation Practice. Provide input on the development of Woodard & Curran design guidelines and standards. Provide technical leadership to Environmental Business staff, with a specific focus on the Remediation Practice. Develop and maintain client-advisor relationships that lead to business and repeat business for the firm. Assist and or lead on proposal preparation and pursuit of new client and project opportunities. Contribute to new and existing Large Account development and management. Conduct research and innovate within project opportunities to implement new and improved methods to execute solutions for our work. Develop and/or lead the development of tools to assist in demonstrating Woodard & Curran's technical leadership. Provide field support, construction oversight, and site visits as needed. What will you need to succeed? B.S. (M.S. desirable) in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering, or related area of study. 10 to 20+ years of professional experience with an engineering consulting firm. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Montana, with the ability to obtain reciprocity within six months in Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming; California licensure is also desirable if feasible. Experience as Engineer of Record. Solid technical expertise in civil and environmental engineering, implementation of field investigations, analysis, documentation, and reporting of various environmental projects; the development of remedial action plans and remedial designs; and construction and implementation of remedial alternatives. Experience with remediation technologies related to former mine site remediation. Experience with stormwater calculations and knowledge of stormwater models. Experience with state (MT, CA, CO, NM, WY) and federal regulations. Experienced with CERCLA and environmental science principles, including site assessment and characterization, remediation, risk assessment, environmental chemistry, etc. Strong written and verbal skills. Contractor and subcontractor management. Cost estimating and project budgeting. Strong attention to detail and quality assurance of tasks and work product. Health and safety stewardship. Mentorship of project staff. Experience in the Mining and Oil & Gas markets is preferred but not essential. $80,000 - $130,000 a year This position's anticipated pay range is provided below; final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will be dependent on experience level as well as considering a % based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. In response to our continued growth, Woodard & Curran offers a unique opportunity to join our Montana team in our Remediation Practice, which provides high‑quality civil and environmental engineering, remediation, and restoration services to commercial and industrial clients throughout the U.S. We are seeking a motivated, growth‑oriented professional with strong technical experience to lead remediation system selection, design, and evaluation, while providing guidance and mentorship to a talented team of engineers and scientists. This role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, a commitment to sound engineering practices, and a passion for innovation and technical excellence in the remediation field.

This position will have a strong civil and remediation engineering focus. Key responsibilities include stormwater design, site development, excavation design, capping design, elevation grading work, dewatering and treatment design, construction support, cost estimation, preparation of specifications, design packages, drawings, and quantity takeoffs. The role may be filled at the Sr. Site Civil/Remediation Engineer or Civil/Remediation Engineer level. While remediation work incorporates a scientific component, we are particularly interested in candidates with a Professional Engineer (PE) license. CERCLA/Superfund experience is highly valuable, though not required, as we have strong regulatory expertise within the team.

In this role, the successful candidate will primarily provide civil and environmental engineering support on remediation and mine site restoration projects throughout the Western United States. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in investigation, remedial design, and restoration efforts associated with complex remediation and construction projects. Experience with Superfund sites, former mine site reclamation/remediation, oil and gas well closures, and interactions with regulators is preferred. You will lead the technical delivery and QA/QC of services across multiple projects, be familiar with local and federal regulations, and support marketing and proposal development.

The position requires a strong communicator with demonstrated ability to develop, lead, and mentor project teams. You will collaborate closely with a diverse and highly skilled group of client managers, project managers, external consultants, and Woodard & Curran engineers, scientists, geologists, and project administrative professionals to deliver exceptional results. You will also contribute to delivery system improvement programs and help lead Practice initiatives. What will you be doing at Woodard & Curran?

  • Function as the technical lead, serve as Engineer of Record for certain projects, and determine the overall technical approach for remediation and restoration services projects of all sizes.
  • Provide engineering and design support for multiple projects.
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of environmental investigations across all media.
  • Prepare feasibility studies.
  • Remedial implementation (construction support, permitting, design clarifications).
  • Develop, coordinate, and provide field oversight of pre-design investigations.
  • Plan and implement treatability studies and pilot tests.
  • Evaluate remediation performance and subsurface conditions.
  • Analyze data and prepare and review technical reports, plans, calculations, drawings, figures, and technical specifications using accepted engineering practices and procedures.
  • Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Perform quality control review of calculations or drawings.
  • Ensure the technical quality of the work product delivered.
  • Interface with and prepare reports for clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare construction bid packages.
  • Implement Construction quality assurance and quality control principles and practices.
  • Support project managers with tasks including budgeting, schedule, scope development, and cost tracking.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and training programs to internal and external clients and professional associations.
  • Mentor staff and aid the development of the next generation of engineers and technical managers within the Remediation Practice.
  • Provide input on the development of Woodard & Curran design guidelines and standards.
  • Provide technical leadership to Environmental Business staff, with a specific focus on the Remediation Practice.
  • Develop and maintain client-advisor relationships that lead to business and repeat business for the firm.
  • Assist and or lead on proposal preparation and pursuit of new client and project opportunities.
  • Contribute to new and existing Large Account development and management.
  • Conduct research and innovate within project opportunities to implement new and improved methods to execute solutions for our work.
  • Develop and/or lead the development of tools to assist in demonstrating Woodard & Curran's technical leadership.
  • Provide field support, construction oversight, and site visits as needed.

What will you need to succeed?

  • B.S. (M.S. desirable) in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering, or related area of study.
  • 10 to 20+ years of professional experience with an engineering consulting firm.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Montana, with the ability to obtain reciprocity within six months in Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming; California licensure is also desirable if feasible.
  • Experience as Engineer of Record.
  • Solid technical expertise in civil and environmental engineering, implementation of field investigations, analysis, documentation, and reporting of various environmental projects; the development of remedial action plans and remedial designs; and construction and implementation of remedial alternatives.
  • Experience with remediation technologies related to former mine site remediation.
  • Experience with stormwater calculations and knowledge of stormwater models.
  • Experience with state (MT, CA, CO, NM, WY) and federal regulations.
  • Experienced with CERCLA and environmental science principles, including site assessment and characterization, remediation, risk assessment, environmental chemistry, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Contractor and subcontractor management.
  • Cost estimating and project budgeting.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality assurance of tasks and work product.
  • Health and safety stewardship.
  • Mentorship of project staff.
  • Experience in the Mining and Oil & Gas markets is preferred but not essential.

This position's anticipated pay range is provided below; final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will be dependent on experience level as well as considering a % based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working.
