WLNS-TV, the CBS affiliate in this sports-crazy Big Ten town, has a rare opening for a job in our sports department. If all you can do is play-by-play and locker room interviews, don't bother applying. We need a sports reporter. You'll be expected to make contacts, come up with story ideas, and follow and break the "news" of sports. We want a story finder as well as a storyteller. This is not a 9-to-5 job. And it's not for the faint of heart. There are long days and strange hours. You will work weekends. You will shoot your own stuff. You will get to anchor, but that won’t be the bulk of your job. For our part - we're committed to sports. WLNS is responsible for producing the MSU Coaches Show - which is broadcast statewide - from August through March. When the football team goes to a bowl game, we're there. We do various sports specials throughout the year, including a Big 10 football preview, a bowl special, and a special each week the Spartans remain in the NCAA basketball tournament. We also have the 5th Quarter - an award-winning high school football/basketball show each Friday night. But we don't limit ourselves to football and basketball. We cover a host of high school and Spartan sports - including, but not limited to hockey, baseball, softball, soccer, golf, and track. Our market is also home to a minor league baseball team and the Michigan International Speedway. Yes, we follow the Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings, but don’t count on spending any time in Detroit. We like to keep the focus local. Qualifications: a degree in journalism, communications, or a related field. Strong writing, editing, and shooting skills. Overview:

HKS is seeking a Senior Project Architect to join our Sports team.

A recognized leader and licensed Architect who is responsible for envisioning, designing and delivering exceptional projects for clients. Possesses strong communication skills, a flexible attitude, ability to solve problems creatively and ability to foster and manage effective client relationships. Responsible for high-impact decisions. Provides technical leadership and acts as an advisor on projects. Endorses the firm’s values by personally influencing client service, innovation and communication. Acts as subject matter expert for technical solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads team and other Project Architects in planning work and developing solutions to technical and design detail problems
  • Collaborates with PIC/PM in defining project work plans and developing and managing the production schedule, including effectively defining and meeting deadlines
  • Leads the creation and modification of complex detailed implementation documents to incorporate the design intent, using diverse knowledge of architecture principles and practices and advanced techniques
  • Leads development of code analysis and confirms code and zoning requirements for assigned segment of project are met
  • Supervises the preparation of documents by architectural team, including verifying implementation documents conform to QA/QC and HKS standards, best practice and quality expectations
  • Manages the technical resolution and coordination for the project
  • Writes reports or specifications for assigned project
  • Prepares client presentations and presents design concepts and drawings
  • Maintains open communication with client and provides guidance through projects
  • Coordinates with PM, clients, public agencies, consultants and contractors to incorporate engineering systems, respond to requests for information, clarifications and modifications, and obtain approvals, negotiations and adjusting scope of services
  • Communicates with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews and delivery of final presentation
  • Attends on-site visits, field reviews and project meetings and documents as needed
  • Responsible for preparing and/or reviewing meeting minutes for consultant coordination meetings
  • Fosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the project team, including promoting communication and creating approachability
  • Actively promotes and incorporates the firm’s principles of ‘design excellence’ through the integration of responsible and sustainable design practice with the art of design
  • Collaborates in managing project to satisfy requirements from budget and schedule perspective while delivering a quality work product
  • Responsible for delivering a project on defined budget requirements and maintaining accountability to project plan and planned utilization rate
  • Supports and may lead the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business and assisting with proposals, budgets and schedules
  • May lead proposal preparation process and participates in negotiation of scope and fees on contracts
  • May participate in marketing interviews

Qualifications:

  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture
  • Architectural Registration required
  • Typically 15+ years of experience
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred
  • Proficiency in architectural software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks and 3D modeling software preferred
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup and InDesign graphic software preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems, accessibility guidelines and QA/QC process
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into implementation documents
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to manage team with diplomatic leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
