Your Role: The Trademark Paralegal (Search Specialist) plays a vital role in supporting U.S. trademark activities, with a strong emphasis on conducting and analyzing knockout searches. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in trademark research and U.S. prosecution procedures, as well as the ability to operate efficiently in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment. Your Impact: Trademark Search & Analysis: Conduct preliminary/knockout trademark searches using USPTO, WIPO, and commercial databases; analyze results to identify conflicts and summarize findings in detailed reports for attorney review. Clearance Coordination: Support attorneys with full trademark clearance processes, including managing third-party search vendors. Prosecution Management: Prepare and file U.S. trademark applications, draft goods and services specifications, identify appropriate specimens of use, and prepare responses to the USPTO. Deadline Monitoring: Track key deadlines using docketing systems, ensuring accuracy and timeliness throughout the prosecution lifecycle. Legal Research: Conduct research on U.S. trademark rules and provide insights as needed for client strategies. Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $75,000 and $95,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs. Your Role:

The Trademark Paralegal (Search Specialist) plays a vital role in supporting U.S. trademark activities, with a strong emphasis on conducting and analyzing knockout searches. Working alongside a collaborative team of attorneys and support professionals, this role focuses on delivering top-tier client service and ensuring accurate, timely prosecution and clearance support. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in trademark research and U.S. prosecution procedures, as well as the ability to operate efficiently in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.

Your Impact:

  • Trademark Search & Analysis: Conduct preliminary/knockout trademark searches using USPTO, WIPO, and commercial databases; analyze results to identify conflicts and summarize findings in detailed reports for attorney review.
  • Clearance Coordination: Support attorneys with full trademark clearance processes, including managing third-party search vendors.
  • Prosecution Management: Prepare and file U.S. trademark applications, draft goods and services specifications, identify appropriate specimens of use, and prepare responses to the USPTO.
  • Deadline Monitoring: Track key deadlines using docketing systems, ensuring accuracy and timeliness throughout the prosecution lifecycle.
  • Legal Research: Conduct research on U.S. trademark rules and provide insights as needed for client strategies.
  • Document Preparation: Draft and format reports and filings using Microsoft Office Suite, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with attorneys and support staff to ensure cohesive and efficient workflow, supporting a high standard of client service.

YOUR SKILLS:

Required:

  • Significant experience (preferably 5+ years) as a trademark paralegal with a focus on search and U.S. prosecution.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. trademark rules and procedures.
  • Proficient in conducting electronic trademark searches and legal research.
  • Familiarity with tools such as the USPTO database, WIPO Global Brand Database, and other commercial search platforms.
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex findings clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting responsibilities aligned with the strategic needs of the firm.
  • Initiative, accountability, and sound judgment in handling sensitive matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Flexibility to adjust work hours as needed to meet job responsibilities.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.
  • Experience coordinating third-party search vendors.
