Primary Responsibilities: Based on the nature of the legal issue or case, prepares a variety of substantive legal documents, including subpoenas, notices of deposition, interrogatories, document requests, garnishments, and applications for writ of execution. These documents are drafted for review and approval of Assistant U.S. Attorneys prior to issue. Upon approval, processes documents and performs necessary follow-up. Maintains regular contact with the applicable federal agencies to ensure compliance with department-wide directives regarding financial litigation. Monitors the progress of pending cases and initiates action to ensure that legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared and submitted within established deadlines. Keeps appropriate staff members informed about the status of cases. Compiles, organizes, and indexes various discovery and evidence exhibits, and witness testimony. Works closely with FLU attorneys to ensure material is efficiently arranged. Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the Unit. Basic Qualifications: Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted Additionally at least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required. Job Overview

The Corporate Paralegal position is a hybrid role based in Shelton, CT, and will report to a senior member of the Legal Department. This role will support attorneys and others in the Legal Department to help manage a variety of processes and workstreams across several disciplines. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with initiative and strong attention to detail who is highly organized and can multi-task competing priorities. This individual must be an ethical and compliance-oriented team player who can effectively work and communicate with internal and external business partners.

A Day In The Life

  • Assist with managing service of process and responding to complaints, demands, subpoenas and other process and requests
  • Correspond with business partners, insurers and internal and external counsel regarding the reporting, assignment, management and status of litigation, claims, threats, regulatory matters and requests
  • Collaborate with internal business partners and counsel to identify custodians, collect and review documents, and prepare responses to discovery and other record requests
  • Assist attorneys with development, review and revision of forms, documents, correspondence, guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Assist with the management of legal hold processes and records
  • Create and maintain physical and electronic matter files, digitize files, assist with management of department records and information and prepare reports, dockets and calendars
  • Assist with development, management and maintenance of various databases
  • Create and maintain e-billing matters, spending reports and matter budgets
  • Assist with review and approval of vendor invoices and the preparation and enforcement of matter budgets
  • Assist attorneys with various department and cross-functional projects and initiatives, document reviews, surveys and presentations
  • Conduct legal research, as necessary

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor's Degree or paralegal certificate preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably for an in-house legal department, or law firm
  • Ability to work independently, applying initiative and judgment, and as part of a team
  • Displays a commitment to excellence and a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands and meet firm deadlines
  • Strong work ethic and a sense of professionalism, demonstrating accountability and integrity
  • Exceptional judgment and the ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and project management skills
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to changing priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Willingness and ability to learn new software tools and processes and implement change
  • Connecticut Notary Public or willing to obtain certification
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other office tools, including Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, DocuSign, Legal Tracker, risk management information systems and other databases
