Job Description: Assists patients with healthcare needs who are ill or recovering from surgery or disease. To show our commitment to your transition into our organization, we are offering a $3000 sign on bonus Posting Specifics Shift Details: Full Time Night Shift- Three 12 hour shifts per week. The employee would be put into a holiday group and the group alternates each year. There are 8 week schedules and night shift weekends are considered Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In the 8 weeks the employee needs to pick up 10 shifts that are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This department has a version of self scheduling that rotates between 2 groups. Department: Surgical and Pediatric floor with some Medical Observation. Unit Information 5th floor is a combined medical/surgical and pediatric floor with 26 beds. We care for many types of surgeries including joint replacements, hip fractures, colectomies, and hysterectomies. We also care for medical observation patients including chest pain, heart cath patients, TIAs and many more illnesses. Pediatric patients that you may see on our unit include bronchiolitis, pneumonia, dehydration appendicitis etc.. It is a great unit for learning, obtaining and perfecting skills. Scope Responds to patient care needs by answering call lights, assisting patients with hygiene care, obtaining vital signs, and communicating constructively, effectively and timely with members of the care team. Performs 12-lead EKG duties commensurate with the level of training received and competency. Apply, check and document restraints as directed by the RN or physician. Performs wound care, stoma care, and specimen collection. Performs equipment and tube care/management e.g. JPs, hemovacs and nasogastric tubes, and Foley removal. Assists with patient transfers, admissions and discharges as directed and in compliance with the principles of safe patient handling. Orders and maintains office and patient care floor stock/supplies. Performs the duties of unit secretary. Maintains patient charts, responds to phone calls, maintains daily assignment board, provides equipment care/cleaning, performs errands associated with patient care and provides accurate information about the patient with interdisciplinary team. Minimum Qualifications Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program Certification as a Nursing Assistant (C N A ) in the state of practice Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP)certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval Physical Requirements: Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time. Shift Details: Full Time

  • Night Shift- Three 12 hour shifts per week.
  • The employee would be put into a holiday group and the group alternates each year.
  • There are 8 week schedules and night shift weekends are considered Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • In the 8 weeks the employee needs to pick up 10 shifts that are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • This department has a version of self scheduling that rotates between 2 groups.

Department: Surgical and Pediatric floor with some Medical Observation.

Unit Information

5th floor is a combined medical/surgical and pediatric floor with 26 beds. We care for many types of surgeries including joint replacements, hip fractures, colectomies, and hysterectomies. We also care for medical observation patients including chest pain, heart cath patients, TIAs and many more illnesses. Pediatric patients that you may see on our unit include bronchiolitis, pneumonia, dehydration appendicitis etc..

Scope

  • Responds to patient care needs by answering call lights, assisting patients with hygiene care, obtaining vital signs, and communicating constructively, effectively and timely with members of the care team.

  • Performs 12-lead EKG duties commensurate with the level of training received and competency.

  • Apply, check and document restraints as directed by the RN or physician.

  • Performs wound care, stoma care, and specimen collection.

  • Performs equipment and tube care/management e.g. JPs, hemovacs and nasogastric tubes, and Foley removal.

  • Assists with patient transfers, admissions and discharges as directed and in compliance with the principles of safe patient handling.

  • Orders and maintains office and patient care floor stock/supplies.

  • Performs the duties of unit secretary. Maintains patient charts, responds to phone calls, maintains daily assignment board, provides equipment care/cleaning, performs errands associated with patient care and provides accurate information about the patient with interdisciplinary team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program

  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant (C N A ) in the state of practice

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP)certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
