About the Unit Radiology Nursing is staffed at 5 locations, Butterworth Hospital, Blodgett Hospital, Lemmen Holton Cancer Pavilion, Cascade, and North Evergreen. Our team consists of highly skilled and trained Registered Nurses and nurse techs. We support all modalities in Radiology for special diagnostic studies and procedures, pre and post op services for IR, CT, MRI sedation and several other services. We see over 25,000 patients a year and in IR alone, there are over 250 different procedure types. JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of a Radiologist, Administrative Director, Radiology Team Leader, or Radiology Section Manager performs radiographic procedures according to protocols established for various age groups of patients, at a technical level requiring minimal supervision of technical detail. Performs a wide variety of general radiographic procedures including but not limited to, complex portables, Trauma Alerts unassisted, complex Fluoroscopy, Basic C-arm, and sterile contrast studies. Technologist may give contrast medias and may flush lines with normal saline contrast/normal saline. Under direct supervision of the Radiologist, the technologist may pull Xilocaine for procedure. Under direct supervision of the Radiologist, the technologist may use heparinized saline to flush catheters. Performs data entry in computer systems necessary for work flow and patient care, such as: ITS, Meditech, PACS, WITT, eMar and Pyxis. Performs related duties such as reporting equipment malfunctions, assisting others, and special assignments. Cleans work area and replenishes supplies. Attends regularly scheduled department meetings and in-services to maintain working knowledge of changes in machines, and protocols,. Maintains CEU's and CPR for license. Radiological Technologist takes radiographs of various portions of the patient's body as requested by the patient's physician to assist the medical staff in detection of foreign bodies and diagnosis and injuries. The Radiological Technologist must have the minimum knowledge and abilities to provide service and care to patients and customers of all ages. The Technologist regulates the radiation controls under the ALARA standards. He/she understands the process in place operating the digital systems in radiology used for imaging, sending images, storing and reporting of images.
