Summary Performs a variety of support functions to facilitate the delivery of services to radiology patients following the guidelines for radiation safety. The Computed Tomography Technologist manages room workflow and facilitates care of patients in conjunction with the Computed Tomography Supervisor. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision and following established procedures and protocols facilitates Computed Tomography examinations for all patients. Checks for contrast allergies and contraindications for all patients. Verifies accuracy of protocols prior to exams. Adheres to policies and procedures for daily operations. Works with the Computed Tomography Supervisor to ensure that the imaging standards are maintained. Participates in the research and development of new exam and protocols. Enters the appropriate charges in EMR accurately for all exams. Ensures that all exams are of high quality and available for interpretation in a timely fashion. Follows workflow plan developed by the supervisor and alerts the supervisor to problems as necessary to a changing environment. Recommends changes to the protocol that would improve the overall quality and care for the patient. Participates in the quality assurance plan for the Computed Tomography program. Actively participates in plan of action in accordance with workflow needs. Monitors the equipment performance and takes the appropriate measures to have the problems resolved (i.e. arrange service/repairs). Performs equipment QC on scanners, temperature checks on contrast warmer and refrigerator. Maintains competency on injectors, POCT devices etc. Consistently demonstrates effective communication, both written and verbal, with all departmental, hospital staff, and vendors. Summary
Performs a variety of support functions to facilitate the delivery of services to radiology patients following the guidelines for radiation safety. Delivers a high level of patient care and customer service to promote patient satisfaction. Provides other support services, dictated by patient needs, as a care delivery team member. Utilizes effective and appropriate communication styles. Supports imaging and hospital goals and objectives.

Job Duties
  • Confirms physician orders are complete and includes signature, ordered study, reason for test (diagnosis/CPT codes) and obtains missing information prior to treatment.
  • Provides care to and related activities for patients using a patient/family centered approach and in accordance with established policies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Employs astute observational skills and properly communicates findings, changes, or problems to RN or Technologist.
  • Uses effective and appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication styles with patients, significant others, visitors, staff, and professional colleagues.
  • Demonstrates team building skills by participating in the orientation of new staff, as assigned.
  • Maintains accurate information in the database; performs all clerical/computer functions to support patient care.
  • Performs registrations, as required.
  • Ensures the safety and efficiency of movement and transportation of patients within and to and from departments.
  • Confirms levels of supplies and equipment to meet requirements for patient care and/or specific departments.
  • Assumes responsibility for cleanliness and sanitation of the immediate work area and maintains orderliness.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED Must be 18 years or older
  • Less than 1 year in a customer service role.
  • Ability to display a compassionate, positive, and upbeat disposition in interactions with patients and colleagues.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in the delivery of patient care.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to follow direction and provide accurate reports.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 30 Days

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
