The primary goal of the MRI Technologist is to provide prompt, courteous, and quality care to every patient requiring our services, keeping foremost in mind to preserve the patient’s dignity and rights to confidentiality. This will be a full-time position working 11:30a-8p Monday- Friday. Four ten-hour shifts are available. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Practice magnetic protection both individually and on behalf of the patient. Responsible for explaining procedures to the patients and answering questions as needed. Scan patients according to protocols and parameters set forth by department policy or by a Radiologist. Process exams on all successfully completed MRI exams. Troubleshoot minor problems that arise with the MRI scanner and PACS system. Seek assistance from appropriate service personnel when necessary. Stay current on new protocols, software changes, policies and procedures, and quality assurance requirements. Maintain a clean and workable working environment at all times. Assure ample stock of linen and professional supplies. Start IV's and inject contrast medium whenever it is appropriate. Inform patients of scan delays or equipment repairs that cause excess waiting for the patient. Assist in transporting patients to restroom, patient’s car or another department whenever necessary. Assist Receptionists and Physicians in setting up appointments for routine patients. Act as a backup for team members who are out of the office, both planned and unplanned. Participate in continuing education applicable to the field and/or self-improvement. Attend and participate in staff meetings and other miscellaneous mandatory meetings. Assist in training new Technologists hired by the center. Perform other duties as assigned. The Thomas Jefferson University Hospital musculoskeletal radiology division is among the largest at academic medical centers in the U.S. with 12 fellowship-trained radiologists, holding numerous leadership and committee positions in the International Skeletal Society and the Society of Skeletal Radiology, and a rapidly growing practice with the opening of the state-of-the-art Honickman Outpatient Center on Jefferson’s campus. Clinical responsibilities will include diagnostic radiographic, CT, MRI, and ultrasound interpretation as well as ultrasound, CT, and fluoroscopy-guided musculoskeletal procedures. We have among the highest musculoskeletal MRI volumes in the U.S. with more than 120 MRI joints interpreted daily, including many sports-related injuries, and over 40 diagnostic MSK ultrasound studies per day, many of which are accompanied by ultrasound-guided procedures, including steroid injections, tenotomy, PRP injections, calcific tendinosis barbotage, flexor retinaculum release for carpal tunnel, etc. We provide imaging interpretation and image-guided intervention services for the major professional sports teams in the region (including coverage at the NFL Combine and MLB spring training), several regional collegiate and high school athletics programs, as well as the Pennsylvania Ballet. Our division also performs all MR imaging and ultrasound-guided exams at an institute specialized in core muscle ("sports hernia") and hip injuries – one of the elite sports-related surgery centers in the country, treating professional football, baseball, basketball, hockey and soccer players from all over the world. We also have a research collaboration with the U.S. Olympic team. The division is nationally recognized for our two fellowship programs, a musculoskeletal radiology ACGME- accredited fellowship (3-4 fellows per year) and a musculoskeletal/neuroradiology MRI fellowship (3-4 fellows per year). In addition, our residency programs include 33 diagnostic radiology residents, 9 integrated interventional radiology residents, and 1 independent interventional radiology position. There is a tremendous opportunity for clinical research. JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.) Greet the patient with eye contact, introduce yourself, and verify correct patient by using proper patient identifiers. Ensure the correct ordering provider and test. Perform a wide range of Ultrasound procedures, including but not limited to, abdominal, testicular, breast, thyroid, vascular and soft tissue examinations. Assist the Radiologist in special scans such as cyst aspirations, biopsies and drainages. Ensure that sterile and aseptic techniques are used at all times. Explain the procedure, prepare and position the patient, select appropriate transducers and other necessary items for the procedure. Verify that the exam on the work list is the correct exam and that the accession number matches the number on the order. Evaluate the clinical history and document history to record into the PACS notes. Recognize the need for additional imaging and/or positioning to fully illustrate the area in question. Adjust frequency, gain, depth, focal zone, size and field of view. Use harmonies or color Doppler and other factors, as necessary. Verify the images on the PACS system, making certain that all images have arrived and all notes are correct. Perform related work as required. Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited ultrasound program. What You'll Do: Provides technical radiological services as requested by patient’s physician to assist in the diagnoses of disease, injury and or the detection of foreign bodies through performance of all radiographic and fluoroscopic studies in the department, in surgery, and in other patient care areas. Operates all imaging equipment in the prescribed manner to provide high quality diagnostic images, including but not limited to utilizing proper technique, proper positioning of patient for procedure, collimating, shielding, use of lead markers, and the immobilization of the patient using instruction and/or equipment developed for this purpose. Processes images through the use of the work stations and CR units; assesses quality of images prior to sending them to Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) via workstation or Paxport. Performs general head, sinus, chest, abdominal, pelvic, and lumbar computed tomography procedures, as well as specialty procedures as requested; confirms images sent to PACS, sends images to Vitrea as requested by Radiologist; operates power injector; assists with daily quality control procedures (i.e., imaging of phantom, checking contrast temperature and checking crash cart); performs and documents quality control procedures (e.g. cassette and darkroom cleanliness, processor quality control, etc.); scans images in R2 unit for CAD assistance; ensures all data has been gathered and placed for interpretation by Radiologist in a timely manner. Maintains competency and current knowledge of all radiographic procedures including Computed Tomography (CT) and surgery imaging to provide high quality diagnostic procedures. Assists the Radiologist and/or other Physicians with procedures directly related to diagnostic/interventional radiology; preparing and maintaining sterile fields/solutions; administers contrast media as delegated by the radiologist; demonstrates documented competency in venipuncture and contrast administration technique as defined in department policy, including properly assessing patient’s existing intravenous lines and proper access of these lines for contrast administration. Scans essential information pertinent to exams that are performed; maintains patient confidentiality; provides technical assistance to physicians as needed, such as assistance with viewing images on PACS, calling reports, printing reports, digitizing or printing images. Maintains equipment to ensure operational functioning; reports any potential hazards or malfunctions of equipment to supervisor or other appropriate resource; contacts service if warranted by a supervisor; assists with end of shift responsibilities; maintains clean work area. Schedules patient procedures, providing pre-exam instructions; verifies patient/caregiver understanding of instruction; maintains patient history files in department utilizing Radiology Information System, following departmental policies and procedures; maintains film files. Requirements Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology (registry eligible) American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) registered. Maintains certification in Computed Tomography and performs one (or more) of these modalities as part of their daily work routine.
