Coordinates and supervises assigned functions within the area of responsibility including clinical and support areas, and personnel with the modality. Monitor the QC of equipment, QA of the image quality, and staff compliance with the standard department imaging protocols. Work in coordination with other Radiology leads and Supervisors to insure integrated operation within all functional areas. I. Major Responsibilities: Directs and supervises assigned personnel on Medical Center campuses and affiliated satellites as required and directed. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, payroll, performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Reviews and reports to the Director on monthly budgetary variances for cost centers and makes recommendations for maintaining budgets in the areas of staffing, supplies and volume Participates in annual budget development and makes recommendations for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met. May participate in the preparation of budget and variance reports, as well as chargemasters for coding and billing of exams. Investigates and recommends new products, equipment and methods that will contribute to greater cost efficiency and higher quality of services. Reviews patient schedule and backlogs on a regular basis and makes appropriate changes to ensure acceptable appointment availability. II. Position Qualifications: License/Certification/Education: Required: Associates Degree or specialized training equal to a two-year college degree. Valid MA license in Radiology from the Department of Public Health. Primary and advanced registration through the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Additional post-primary certification as required for each modality as required- CT scan, etc. Experience/Skill: Required: 3 to 5 years of technical experience. Previous experience or demonstrated ability in management and supervisory responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to participate in teaching and performing all facets of Radiology including the regulatory requirements of the ACR, DPH and FDA for quality control. Proficiency in using equipment and software. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be self directed. Previous experience with positive public relations, must be organized and diplomatic. Must have independent problem solving ability, ability to set priorities. Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. MODALITY SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS Diagnostic Imaging: ARRT and Massachusetts State License required. CPR certification required. 3-5 Years of Experience CT: ARRT, Massachusetts State License required, CT certification required within one year of employment. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Physician/Chief of the Medical Facility EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE: Under direction, incumbents may instruct and prepare patients for radiologic examinations; Determine the most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shield patients appropriately; Prepare patients for radiologic examinations by explaining the procedure, removing articles such as jewelry, through which x-rays cannot pass Positioning patients so that the correct parts of the body can be radiographed. Place the x-ray film under the part of the patient's body to be examined and make the exposure. Then remove the film and develop it. Position and operate stationary or portable radiologic machines and take x-rays images of all parts of the human body for the physician to use in the diagnosis of disease or injury. Produce x-ray films (radiographs), develop, make copies and fix x-ray films of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. Prepare solutions for processing films; Assist in fluoroscopic work; under supervision, make clinical photographs of unusual cases and identify photographs; Maintain equipment and quarters; Monitors patients during the procedure. Surround the exposed area with radiation protection devices, such as lead shields, or limit the size of the x-ray beam to prevent unnecessary radiation exposure. Using instruments similar to a measuring tape, measure the thickness of the section to be radiographed and set controls on the machine to produce radiographs of the appropriate density, detail and contrast. Keep records and files; Make reports as needed and other related duties. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of modern radiologic equipment and techniques; regional and gross anatomy of the human body; standardized radiologic clinical procedures; thorough knowledge of the hazards of radiologic materials and the safety precautions required; the operation and care of modern radiologic equipment; and the ordering and storing of supplies. Ability to communicate effectively at a level required for successful job performance; administer emergency aid for shock; prepare solution used in processing x-ray film and process film; keep simple records, file film correctly, and compile reports; follow directions; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others EDUCATION: (include any licenses or certifications required) High school diploma or the equivalent. Coordinates and supervises assigned functions within the area of responsibility including clinical and support areas, and personnel with the modality. Monitor the QC of equipment, QA of the image quality, and staff compliance with the standard department imaging protocols. Work in coordination with other Radiology leads and Supervisors to insure integrated operation within all functional areas.

I. Major Responsibilities:

  1. Directs and supervises assigned personnel on Medical Center campuses and affiliated satellites as required and directed. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, payroll, performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training.

  2. Reviews and reports to the Director on monthly budgetary variances for cost centers and makes recommendations for maintaining budgets in the areas of staffing, supplies and volume

  3. Participates in annual budget development and makes recommendations for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met. May participate in the preparation of budget and variance reports, as well as chargemasters for coding and billing of exams.

  4. Investigates and recommends new products, equipment and methods that will contribute to greater cost efficiency and higher quality of services.

  5. Reviews patient schedule and backlogs on a regular basis and makes appropriate changes to ensure acceptable appointment availability.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

  1. Associates Degree or specialized training equal to a two-year college degree.

  2. Valid MA license in Radiology from the Department of Public Health.

  3. Primary and advanced registration through the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

  4. Additional post-primary certification as required for each modality as required- CT scan, etc.

Experience/Skill:

Required:

  1. 3 to 5 years of technical experience.

  2. Previous experience or demonstrated ability in management and supervisory responsibilities.

  3. Demonstrated ability to participate in teaching and performing all facets of Radiology including the regulatory requirements of the ACR, DPH and FDA for quality control.

  4. Proficiency in using equipment and software.

  5. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be self directed.

  6. Previous experience with positive public relations, must be organized and diplomatic.

  7. Must have independent problem solving ability, ability to set priorities.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
