A Radiologic Technologist performs a full scope of radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures and acquires and analyzes data needed for diagnosis at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Radiologic Technologists independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures. Radiologic Technologists prepare, administer, and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy. Job Duties: Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality. Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable). Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable. Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers. Assisting the licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized radiologic procedures. Performing diagnostic radiographic and noninterpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, including those procedures performed outside of the Radiology Department (i.e., Operating room, Endoscopy, ICU, etc.). Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities. Fully proficient in all assigned routine and complex job duties., including all procedures in the Operating Room. Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Ensure the correct ordering provider and test. Perform a wide range of Ultrasound procedures, including but not limited to, abdominal, testicular, breast, thyroid, vascular and soft tissue examinations. Assist the Radiologist in special scans such as cyst aspirations, biopsies and drainages. Ensure that sterile and aseptic techniques are used at all times. Explain the procedure, prepare and position the patient, select appropriate transducers and other necessary items for the procedure. Verify that the exam on the work list is the correct exam and that the accession number matches the number on the order. Evaluate the clinical history and document history to record into the PACS notes. Recognize the need for additional imaging and/or positioning to fully illustrate the area in question. Adjust frequency, gain, depth, focal zone, size and field of view. Use harmonies or color Doppler and other factors, as necessary. Verify the images on the PACS system, making certain that all images have arrived and all notes are correct. Perform related work as required. Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited ultrasound program. Stay current on new protocols, software changes, policies and procedures, and quality assurance requirements. Maintain a clean and workable working environment at all times. Assure ample stock of linen and professional supplies. Start IV's and inject contrast medium whenever it is appropriate. Inform patients of scan delays or equipment repairs that cause excess waiting for the patient. Assist in transporting patients to restroom, patient’s car or another department whenever necessary.
