The Radiology Technologist will produce quality, diagnostic x-ray images while providing excellent service to patients, physicians, and other employees. Essential Functions - Utilizes good radiation safety practices (ALARA) for patients, self and others by appropriate use of available devices. - Performs clerical functions required to navigate patient’s medical record and complete orders in a timely manner. - Displays competency operating the Picture Archiving and Communication (PAC) system. - Displays competency operating equipment and performing procedures in the department, operating room, and on a mobile basis. - Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas and assures that rooms are stocked with necessary supplies. - Accurately marks all radiographs with side and position, utilizing lead markers whenever possible. - Assures patient information is correct on all paperwork and imaging. - Produces high quality radiographs and has minimal retake percentage - Educates patient, family and others, as appropriate, in regard to procedures the patient may be having, Provides the necessary documentation as appropriate. - Covers assigned ‘on call’ shifts as directed and responds in a timely manner. Maintains a high level of technical proficiency to assist in the development of new techniques and protocols for the department. Supervises technologists in day-to-day operations. Major Responsibilities: Supervises activities of team members and adequate coverage of all areas in the department. Monitors team member productivity levels, accuracy of exams and appropriate patient care and monitoring. Coordinates and organizes the patient flow throughout the department, prioritizing procedures and shifting workloads as needed. Verifies quality of exams on all procedures performed by team members. Maintains a high level of technical proficiency in regard to system management. Obtains medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist or registered nurse. Assures that the team keeps areas stocked for the next day and maintains documentation of patient output, downtime of equipment, and supply charges. Maintains team member records and documents paid time off requests, reasons for absences and tardiness. Assists with preparing technical team evaluations. Troubleshoots equipment or procedure problems with appropriate follow-up to service engineers, managers and physicians. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: Registry with either the NMTCB or ARRT and previous supervisory experience required. CPR Registry Required. Education Required: Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes Radiologic Technology. Experience Required: N/A Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Assists patients throughout their exam and procedure. Strenuous physical effort may be required while assisting patients from wheelchairs and stretchers. Requires unrestricted walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling and lifting. Must be able to read and understand patient orders and technical materials. Motor coordination needed to operate heavy and delicate equipment. Intact sense of sight and hearing for distances of up to 20 feet is necessary. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Accepts and performs patient care duties as assigned by Allied Health Professional Answers phone calls from patients and helps direct patient flow Keeps patients informed of wait times and/or next steps in their medical processes Receives phone calls from the floor/ED and provides timely communication regarding scheduling Serves as second MRI personnel necessary for MRI safe coverage within Zone 3 and 4 per ACR and JCAHO requirements; serves as tech extender for CT.
