Assists patients to restrooms, with bedpans, urinals and other ancillary clinical support needs as required. Position Title: Cardiovascular Technologist- Radiology tech- OUMC EP Lab Department: Electrophysiology Lab Job Description: General Description: Under immediate to general supervision and direction of a mentor/preceptor, this entry-level position works to achieve the initial competencies required to deliver specialized cardiovascular and/or radiologic technology services to adult and/or pediatric patient populations for the purpose of aiding medical staff in the diagnosis, care, treatment and surveillance of simple to complex conditions, defects and/or diseases. Prepares patients for procedures and correlates clinical history with procedures ordered by physicians to be performed. Conducts post-procedure review with or without preceptor to confirm that all required elements are completed, documented, and that technical quality is consistent with established department protocols and/or applicable accreditation standards. Transfers images and data to the appropriate archival systems, enters technical data/findings and prepares study for reporting by physician. Performs operator-level quality control checks, cleaning, high-level disinfecting and other user maintenance per manufacturer instructions for use and other regulatory guidelines. Participates in continuing education, professional development and research activities to maintain competencies and promote continuous improvements in care and treatments. General Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications : Education: Graduate of an accredited radiography program required. Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited educational program with emphasis in a primary cardiovascular or radiologic technology specialty as defined by the ARDMS, ARRT and/or CCI, preferred. (Candidates within 6 weeks of graduation from an approved program may be considered for employment). Experience: 0-3 years of experience. License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Must meet applicant eligibility requirements and published standards for ARDMS, ARRT, or CCI in the cardiovascular or radiologic technology specialty required by the hiring department. Must be achieved within 12 months of hire date. Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Based on specific assignment, skill in applying principles of cardiovascular and/or radiologic technology, medical imaging, medical terminology, positioning of patients, and medical ethics. Must be able to work as part of a team and follow instructions; must be able to consistently and dependably report to work as scheduled. Ability to be sensitive to patients’ physical and psychological needs. Ability to maintain accurate records and work accurately with names, numbers, and codes. Ability to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information and exercise sound judgment. Must be able to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations. Must possess ability to understand various operations, policies, and procedures. Ability to work and communicate with staff, patients and their families, and meet their needs in a professional, polite, courteous, compassionate, and cooperative manner. Must display a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently. Ability to work with minimum supervision and demonstrate attention to detail. Core knowledge and understanding of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology; cardiovascular and/or radiologic technologies and terminology associated with the primary specialty for which hired and credentialed. Ability and skill to apply core-level primary specialty theory, practices and techniques to perform, post-process, analyze and annotate study data or procedure documentation with general supervision or assistance. Pay Range

$21.00 - $21.00

Performs a variety of patient care duties and other professional activities as needed to facilitate patient care and treatment. Performs under the supervision of a radiology technologist. Assists in monitoring the flow of patient activities in the department.

Essential Functions

  • Performs basic diagnostic x-rays supervised by a radiology technologist.
  • Identifies and assists patients with questions about procedures.
  • Prepares patients for exam and ensures patient safety in the absence of the radiology technologist.
  • Obtains medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast media materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist or registered nurse.
  • Assists physicians and technologists in the performance of diagnostic exams based on assigned modality and career pursuits (Rad/Fluro, CT, IR, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound) to include procedures requiring the administration of contrast media.
  • Retrieves patient orders and requisitions while supporting administrative or miscellaneous work tasks in the RIS, EMR, or other standard applications required in the workflow for diagnostic exams.
  • Assists patients to restrooms, with bedpans, urinals and other ancillary clinical support needs as required.
  • Assists with administrative duties, quality assurance, safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements.

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation. Frequently may be required to stretch, bend twist, squat or kneel in the daily operation of the assigned clinical area. May be exposed to various physical conditions throughout the day such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, being near moving equipment. Required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation, MRI safety, and infection control as dictated by the procedural area.

Education, Experience and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED with preliminary coursework toward a certificate or degree in a medical imaging field. Clinical experience based on the educational program affiliated with the pursuit of career in medical imaging; Medical clerical skills preferred. Positions
