Job Description The Department of Radiology at Jefferson Health/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is seeking a musculoskeletal fellowship-trained radiologist to join the Musculoskeletal Radiology Division. The Thomas Jefferson University Hospital musculoskeletal radiology division is among the largest at academic medical centers in the U.S. with 12 fellowship-trained radiologists, holding numerous leadership and committee positions in the International Skeletal Society and the Society of Skeletal Radiology, and a rapidly growing practice with the opening of the state-of-the-art Honickman Outpatient Center on Jefferson’s campus. Clinical responsibilities will include diagnostic radiographic, CT, MRI, and ultrasound interpretation as well as ultrasound, CT, and fluoroscopy-guided musculoskeletal procedures. We have among the highest musculoskeletal MRI volumes in the U.S. with more than 120 MRI joints interpreted daily, including many sports-related injuries, and over 40 diagnostic MSK ultrasound studies per day, many of which are accompanied by ultrasound-guided procedures, including steroid injections, tenotomy, PRP injections, calcific tendinosis barbotage, flexor retinaculum release for carpal tunnel, etc. We provide imaging interpretation and image-guided intervention services for the major professional sports teams in the region (including coverage at the NFL Combine and MLB spring training), several regional collegiate and high school athletics programs, as well as the Pennsylvania Ballet. Our division also performs all MR imaging and ultrasound-guided exams at an institute specialized in core muscle ("sports hernia") and hip injuries – one of the elite sports-related surgery centers in the country, treating professional football, baseball, basketball, hockey and soccer players from all over the world. We also have a research collaboration with the U.S. Olympic team. The division is nationally recognized for our two fellowship programs, a musculoskeletal radiology ACGME- accredited fellowship (3-4 fellows per year) and a musculoskeletal/neuroradiology MRI fellowship (3-4 fellows per year). In addition, our residency programs include 33 diagnostic radiology residents, 9 integrated interventional radiology residents, and 1 independent interventional radiology position.   • Produces images of diagnostic quality. Processes and prepares images for interpretation by the radiologist, labeled properly. Corrects vessel, side, or product used label.
  • Acts as a scrub assistant assisting the physician during interventional procedures under fluoroscopy while maintaining a sterile technique.
  • Prepares and administers contrast, as prescribed, based on approved protocol under the supervision of the Radiologist. Assists physician in the performance of specialized procedures including sterile technique.
  • Verifies proper injection settings, checks connections between catheters and injectors, and injects contrast under physician supervision.
  • Sets up sterile tray. Preps patient for exam by grooming and/or prepping appropriate area. Secures and maintains supplies.
  • Ensures room is prepped and necessary supplies and equipment are in room, prepared for radiologist. Shows patient's name brought up on xray and US equipment. Positions patient on table for procedure.
  • Assumes responsibility for proper and efficient operation of all equipment used. Reports malfunction and the need for adjustment and/or repairs to Clinical Engineering and the Radiology Manager.
  • Keeps sterile and clean environment in IR lab and procedure rooms. Assumes responsibility for cleanliness and sanitation of the immediate work area. Does light housekeeping. Maintains orderliness. Assumes responsibility and accountability for his/her own safety and the safety of others.
  • Documents LMP, fluoro time, radiologist, antibodies, and staff involved in the case; estimated blood loss; and mGy. Ensures appropriate exams are ordered and attached to the correct patient within 30 minutes after procedure.
  • Ensures coordination of daily work duties within the team; coordinates timing of exams within department guidelines.
  • Ensures correct patient supplies are charged. Obtains proper patient information and provides labs, signs, symptoms, and history.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Technical School Diploma Radiology
  • Ability to possess a high degree of maturity and exercise individual judgment in working with patients, equipment, and personnel that are involved in vascular interventional exams.
  • Ability to deal effectively and ethically with medical and confidential information relating to patients, families, physicians, and nursing personnel.
  • Must maintain a professional relationship with co-workers and medical staff.
  • Must be able to work in stressful situations.
  • RT - Registered Technologist Radiology- State of Pennsylvania
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support- State of Pennsylvania within 90 Days

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Interventional Radiology
  • VI - Vascular Interventional Radiography ARRT- State of Pennsylvania

Physical DemandsLift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
