Administers medication as directed by provider and documents in EMR per policy. b. Insures records for pharmaceutical distribution are in compliance with regulatory and state standards. Supplies a. General Supervision - the procedure is furnished under the physician's overall direction and control, but the physician's presence is not required during the performance of the procedure. Under general supervision, the training of the non-physician personnel who actually perform the diagnostic procedure and the maintenance of the necessary equipment and supplies are the continuing responsibility of the physician. b. Direct Supervision - the physician (or other supervising practitioner) must be present in the office suite and immediately available to furnish assistance and direction throughout the performance of the procedure. It does not mean that the physician (or other supervising practitioner) must be present in the room when the procedure is performed. c. Personal Supervision - a physician must be in attendance in the room during the performance of the procedure. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Interviews patients to obtain, verify, or update medical history. Reviews the patient's medical record to verify the appropriateness of a specific exam or procedure. Performs physical examination and analysis of data such as signs and symptoms, laboratory values, and significant abnormalities as required by the imaging procedure to be conducted. Assesses risk factors that may be contraindications to the procedure such as health history, medications, pregnancy, psychological indicators, and alternative medicines. Performs the following examinations and procedures, including contrast media administration, placement of needle or catheter, and operation of imaging equipment, under general supervision of a radiologist: Upper GI Esophagram Small bowel studies Contrast enema Evaluation of percutaneous gastric and enteric tubes. Performs the following examinations and procedures, including contrast media administration, placement of needle or catheter, and operation of imaging equipment, under direct supervision of a radiologist: Nasoenteric and oroenteric feeding tube placement Joint injection and aspiration Arthrogram, including conventional, CT, and MR PICC placement Paracentesis with appropriate image guidance Thoracentesis with appropriate image guidance Lumbar puncture under fluoroscopic guidance Fine needle aspiration Performs one or more of the following procedures under the level of supervision by a radiologist as specified in the request letter submitted by the radiologist (see PHYSICIAN SUPERVISON LEVELS): Lower extremity venography Lumbar, thoracic, or cervical pyelography Nontunneled venous central line placement Venous catheter placement for dialysis Breast needle localization Ductogram (galactogram) Ttube cholangiogram Retrograde urethrogram Port injection Fistulogram Sinogram Loopogram Swallowing study Hysterosalpingogram Other specific procedures approved by the Board Monitors patients during procedure. Teaches and collaborates with radiology residents in Fluoroscopy and Ultrasound guided procedures. Job Summary The Radiology Technologist will produce radiographs of various anatomical parts and systems for diagnostic purposes as directed by the radiologist. Reconfirm patient's identification and verifies the physician's order. Review the patient's chart and/or the physician's order to determine the optimal imaging procedure for suspected pathology. Provide accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate time and at a level the patient can understand. Instruct patient regarding preparation prior to imaging procedures including allergic reactions. Analyze the information obtained during assessment phase and determines optimal imaging parameters per diagnosis. Determine whether patient has been appropriately prepared for procedure. Assess factors that may contraindicate procedure such as medications or insufficient patient preparation. Select appropriate shielding and immobilization devices. Administer contrast agents according to established guidelines (if applicable). Obtain written consent prior to IV contrast administration. Evaluate lab values prior to administering contrast agents. Determine appropriate type and dose of contrast agent to be administered. Monitor patient during exam for adverse reaction to contrast media. Complete oral contrast screening form. Obtain optimum images during exam/procedure. Set/adjust radiographic equipment. Position patients to obtain diagnostic images per established protocols.
