Summary: The person in this position will work with project teams to provide computer-aided drafting expertise, primarily using AutoCAD software. Typical duties may include data collection, planning, and problem solving related to structural design. Project work will include drafting the design of foundations and supports, steel framing, access platforms, stacks, pumping and piping systems, industrial equipment, conveyor systems, and various details. Practical design knowledge of steel and concrete structures such as buildings, dams, hydraulic structures, equipment supports, foundations, retaining walls, and other similar structures will be required as well as the ability to visualize three-dimensional relationships from two-dimensional views. Drawings will be completed using AutoCAD and/or Revit software. Occasional assistance with mechanical, electrical, or civil design may also be required. Compensation: The anticipated base hourly range for this position is $22.00-$24.00/hour. This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Job Description

Summary:

The person in this position will work with project teams to provide computer-aided drafting expertise, primarily using AutoCAD software. Typical duties may include data collection, planning, and problem solving related to structural design. Project work will include drafting the design of foundations and supports, steel framing, access platforms, stacks, pumping and piping systems, industrial equipment, conveyor systems, and various details.

Practical design knowledge of steel and concrete structures such as buildings, dams, hydraulic structures, equipment supports, foundations, retaining walls, and other similar structures will be required as well as the ability to visualize three-dimensional relationships from two-dimensional views. Drawings will be completed using AutoCAD and/or Revit software. Occasional assistance with mechanical, electrical, or civil design may also be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two-year technical certificate or other education or training directly related to the job responsibilities described above

  • Proficiency using current versions of AutoCAD or similar

  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients

  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative

  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

  • Superior task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and following up

  • Possession of valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience directly related to job responsibilities described above

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and their applications in an industrial environment

  • Experience in the consulting industry

  • Past structural design job experience using CAD or job experience in a related industry (construction, detailing, fabrication, etc.) where reading and understanding engineering design drawings was required

  • Experience with 3D software such as Revit, CADWorx, Solidworks, etc.

  • Familiarity with work on a variety of structural systems including heavy steel framing, concrete foundations, and concrete and masonry walls

  • Familiarity with work in an industrial environment and basic knowledge of various industrial disciplines and industrial construction

  • Experience with drafting and design in other engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, civil, or electrical

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Bismarck, North Dakota, or Hibbing, Minnesota, offices.

Compensation:

The anticipated base hourly range for this position is $22.00-$24.00/hour. This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Barr has a "no retained earnings" model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
