Job Description
- Screen and interprets actual copies of original Physicians orders.
- Dispenses routine, STAT and emergency medications to nursing units in a timely manner.
- IV admixtures are prepared aseptically and are delivered to nursing units in a timely manner.
- Maintains adequate inventories of controlled substances in the Pharmacy & on the nursing units and participates in the biennial inventory.
- Assesses medication usage patterns, ordering quantities adequate to meet demands and prevent shortages & outs.
- Participates in the annual physical inventory of all medications at the end of the fiscal year.
- Takes part in drug usage evaluations and quality improvement activities; prepares & presents material for the P/T Committee if requested to do so.
- Sets priorities & maintains flexibility in order to assure that all daily tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner; arrives to work on time, notifies manager of unplanned absences, requests planned absences in a timely manner.
- Maintains an awareness and knowledge of new drugs & techniques; completes continuing education credits adequate to maintain eligibility for licensure and current CPR certification per facility policy.
- Supervises pharmacy technicians or students in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager and assists in the orientation of newly hired technicians or any students doing their rotation in the Pharmacy.
- Education: Requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy.
- Experience: Prior hospital and/or retail pharmacy experience is preferred but not required.
- License Requirements: Must be a currently registered pharmacist in good standing with the Board of Pharmacy in the state of North Dakota.
