Job Description
Beloit College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to teach full-time during the 2026-27 academic year, with the possibility of a second year appointment in 2027-28. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. or A.B.D in botany, plant physiology, conservation biology, ecology, environmental biology, or related field, and will teach two integrated lecture and laboratory courses each semester. The courses will include an introductory botany course and intermediate courses in conservation, environmental biology, ecology, and/or another area of environmental biology. The courses will be inquiry-based, have integrated laboratory and field components, enroll biology majors and other students, and be limited to 24 students. All biology courses at Beloit stress scientific principles and experimental methods and engage students in the design, performance, analysis, and communication of results of research projects.
This position is an excellent opportunity to teach in a department that is nationally known for innovative pedagogy. The visiting faculty member will receive individualized mentoring from members of the biology faculty, as well as opportunities to pursue professional development as both a teacher and scholar. Over the last 25 years, multiple visiting faculty members in the biology department have secured tenure-track positions at colleges and universities.
Beloit College is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for all members of our residential learning community. We believe that a variety of perspectives and backgrounds enrich our students' liberal arts education and contribute to the overall vitality of our institution. We seek applicants who are committed to contributing to our efforts to celebrate cultural and intellectual richness. We encourage applications from individuals of various backgrounds, including women, people of color, people with disabilities, and members of other historically underrepresented communities.
Applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, statements of teaching and research interests, unofficial scans of undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and the names and contact information for three references via the online application portal. Review of applications begins February 23 and continues until the position is filled. If you have questions about the search, you may contact the chair of the Biology Department, Amy Briggs, at
