Job Description
Position Summary: Prepare biology laboratory supplies for biology courses, teach biology lab courses, maintain biology stockroom inventory, and aid in managing the department's greenhouse and serpentarium.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare laboratory supplies for several biology courses, including chemicals, solutions, and equipment
- Supervise testing laboratory experiments for quality control purposes
- Place and track orders, receive shipments, and maintain accurate inventories for teaching and research labs
- Teach biology laboratory courses, including developing of syllabi and developing, delivering, and grading assignments
- Provide safe learning environment for students in the laboratory
- Hire and manage student laboratory assistants and coordinate their timesheets
- Provide student laboratory assistants with training on lab safety protocols and basic lab techniques
- Ensure that laboratory safety procedures are followed within laboratories and classrooms, including conducting safety equipment checks as required by OSHA regulations
- Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment
- Follow hazardous waste protocols and schedule annual disposal pickups
- As needed, assist faculty and student workers in caring for laboratory plants and animals and in managing the greenhouse
- Function as a point of contact for the Science Building in case of emergencies
- Manage the department’s social media platforms, including both Instagram and Facebook
- Provide general service to the department as needed, including coordinating tours and events
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Possess knowledge of teaching field
- Effective in oral and written communication
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills in the classroom and interpersonally with students and faculty
- Demonstrate organizational abilities in teaching and classroom management
- Possess and communicate a Biblical worldview and integrate it into subject matter
- Exemplify a biblical role model for students and colleagues
- Professional in appearance and presentation
- Master's degree preferred
- Careful attention to detail in carrying out laboratory and administrative tasks
