Core Responsibilities

  • Design lessons, labs, investigations, and assessments that promote inquiry, data analysis, problem-solving, academic discourse, and application of scientific concepts.
  • Establish and enforce safe laboratory and classroom procedures, including the proper use, handling, storage, and disposal of materials and equipment.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress, provide timely feedback, and adjust instruction to improve achievement.
  • Differentiate instruction and implement assigned accommodations, modifications, and intervention plans.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, lesson plans, lab records, inventory records as assigned, and other required instructional documentation.
  • Create and maintain a safe, orderly, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment that supports student engagement and achievement.
  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, special population support staff, and colleagues to support student success and consistent implementation of campus expectations.
  • Communicate professionally with families regarding academic progress, classroom expectations, and student support needs.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties, transitions, arrival, dismissal, testing, and other school activities.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the High School Principal or designee.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge in high school biology.
  • Meets at least one Louisiana-approved credentialing pathway for service in a nonpublic school setting:
  • holds a valid Louisiana teaching certificate appropriate to the assignment; or
  • meets Louisiana nonpublic school instructional staff requirements for the assignment, including a bachelor's degree, a major or equivalent coursework in the teaching area, and required professional education coursework or documented progress toward that coursework; or
  • is eligible to obtain the Louisiana authorization or temporary credential required for the assignment, including a teaching authorization and, if needed, an appropriate science credential.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required employment clearances, including fingerprint-based criminal history review, DCFS State Central Registry clearance as applicable, and any additional state-mandated eligibility checks.
  • Ability to complete required onboarding and annual compliance trainings.
  • Strong instructional planning, classroom management, laboratory safety, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Louisiana certification in secondary science or an appropriate biology-related content area.
  • Prior successful teaching experience at the high school level.
  • Coursework or an advanced degree in biology, life sciences, environmental science, or a related science field.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English preferred, including the ability to support instruction and communicate effectively in a multilingual school environment.
  • Experience supporting multilingual students and students with documented accommodations.
  • Experience with laboratory instruction, inquiry-based learning, and curriculum-aligned assessment design.

Compliance and Conditions of Employment

  • The selected candidate must meet all Louisiana nonpublic school employment, credentialing, and eligibility requirements for the position.
  • The selected candidate must complete required onboarding, annual compliance training, mandatory reporter training, and any other training required for the role.
  • The selected candidate must follow school policies and all required workplace, privacy, and student protection standards.
  • Employment is contingent upon verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States, successful completion of required background and child-protection checks, and submission of all required employment documents.

Physical Demands
