Suitable histology biomedical scientist who can do proficient microtomy. What will you be doing in this Biomedical Scientist role? Perform histological tests on tissue samples, including processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining, to prepare them for microscopic examination. Ensure all laboratory procedures comply with quality standards and regulatory requirements. Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and functioning correctly. Troubleshoot and report any malfunctions. Analyze and interpret histological slides, providing accurate and timely reports to pathologists and clinicians. Assist in the diagnosis of diseases by identifying cellular abnormalities. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all tests performed, including patient information, test results, and quality control data. Adhere to health and safety protocols to minimize risks to yourself and others. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow biosafety guidelines. Provide training and supervision to junior staff, students, and laboratory assistants. Ensure they follow standard operating procedures and maintain high standards of practice. Participate in research projects and contribute to the development of new histological techniques and procedures. Stay updated with advancements in histology. Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, providing expert advice on histological matters. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions. Manage laboratory supplies and reagents, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage. Essential Requirements for this Biomedical Scientist position: Previous experience working in a UK NHS Histology laboratory is essential. Relevant qualification in Biomedical Science (e.g., BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent). Must be proficient in microtomy, embedding, and staining techniques. Business Unit Overview: Material Science & Engineering (MSE) in Drug Product Development (DPD) plays an integral role in material selection and establishing robust material strategies throughout drug product development. The Advanced Material Characterization (AMC) team furthers the knowledge of complex pharmaceutical materials using novel applications of solid-state characterization techniques. Position Overview: As a Principal Scientist in the AMC group, you will be responsible for solid-state characterization, primarily using vibrational spectroscopic techniques, throughout all stages of pharmaceutical development (from discovery to commercialization). Primary activities will include using non-routine techniques to characterize both common and complex pharmaceutical materials. In this role you will also provide significant support for novel materials research and development efforts, including a broad range of materials, such as small molecule APIs (crystalline and non-crystalline); biologics; Drug Product Intermediates (DPI); drug products; and excipients. This job will require deep knowledge, extensive experience, and the necessary skill sets in advanced solid-state characterization techniques like vibrational spectroscopy and biophysical characterization. Experience with ssNMR is a plus. Familiarity with advanced thermal analysis, optical and electron imaging analysis, plus common knowledge of biopharmaceutical physical characterization is desirable. Key Responsibilities: Conduct polymorph characterization of small molecule APIs and method development for the determination of API form changes in drug products by vibrational spectroscopy to support drug product formulation and process development. Support the advancement and application of novel biophysical technologies to gain detailed insights into the structural and functional properties of our therapeutic candidates Collaborate closely with the Sterile Product Development team to characterize protein aggregation, particulate formation, and lyophilized protein solids to support formulation and process development in biologics. Independently conduct experiments, interpret data, and convert findings to knowledge. Prepare and present analytical results and conclusions both orally and in writing to cross-functional teams and contribute to decision-making. Instructs in the following fire-related topic areas: fire apparatus driver/operator, firefighting principles, fire protection hydraulics, principles of emergency services, hazardous materials, fire department management, fire detection/suppression systems, fire inspection, fire investigation, fire prevention, pre-fire planning. Coordinates/supports all members of the NWTC fire adjunct faculty in the delivery of fire-related training. Works closely with local fire departments to coordinate all aspects of the fire internship program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE Associate degree in an appropriate field (Fire Protection, Fire Science, Fire Suppression, Fire Technology, or other fire-related educational background) and three (3) years of experience in professional firefighting or fire ground operations. At a minimum, occupational experience has to have occurred at least 1 year within the last 5 years. Certification in Emergency Services Instructor I is required Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Driver Operator Pumper, Fire Officer 1 certifications required. Preferred Qualifications: Previous teaching experience with adult learners is preferred Emergency Services Instructor II preferred Class B CDL required. Responsibilities: Maintain and effectively communicate deep scientific knowledge MSLs will be required to engage in continuous learning to maintain the highest level of technical expertise within the therapeutic area they represent. This will enable the MSL to answer deep scientific questions and be sought after by their customers based on peer-credible knowledge and expertise. As a result, the MSL will establish themself as a reliable, trusted, resource of unbiased, accurate, up-to-date, medical and scientific knowledge requested and desired by their customers. Excel at customer engagement and support medical/scientific information needs of scientific experts MSLs will spend the majority of their time field based and customer facing engaging in mutually beneficial 2-way dialogues with SEs. Through the application of emotional intelligence and a deep understanding of their customers, MSLs will act as one of the primary interfaces between Lilly medical and scientific experts to deliver the best-in-class customer experiences. Core to the role is to answer customer questions by providing deep and advanced disease state and product information. Additionally, MSLs connect SEs with other Lilly resources or internal business partners as appropriate and identify possible collaborative research or external collaborations. Strategic vision and leadership MSLs synthesize complex data and effectively communicate meaningful clinical insights and unanswered customer questions they receive from SEs to Lilly medical and cross functional teams. They use creative problem-solving skills and utilize internal resources effectively to execute upon solutions. MSLs use a principle-based decision-making approach to make decisions independently or escalate them appropriately. They cultivate internal networks and collaborate effectively across functions with an active contribution to medical planning and strategy in the affiliate. Territory ownership MSLs will be expected to demonstrate strategic analysis, planning, and prioritization to maximize efficiency. They will implement and evaluate a strategic territory plan prioritizing core ML activity and take personal accountability for results. The MSL will execute the role in a compliant manner, adhering to all governing internal and external requirements, procedures, and laws, demonstrating good judgement at all times. Minimum Requirements: Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD in a medically related field) required with 2-3 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience desired. Masters or bachelor's level degree in health sciences (e.g. BSN, RPh, PA, NP) considered if 5 or more years clinical, research or industry (medical/scientific role) experience in relevant therapeutic area is present. The Opportunity: The Director, Global Patient Safety Science provides safety science and pharmacovigilance support to all products across the RevMed portfolio, which includes early and late phase development activities as a member of the Global Patient Safety team. The individual will be responsible for safety oversight and input into all aspects of study management across the portfolio. This position may have individual reporting to it depending on the program/portfolio being led. The Director of Safety Science serves as the lead for multiple or large complex strategically important developmental programs. Also, works closely with the other functions as part of a flexible matrix team to conduct robust safety assessments and safety risk management activities. The Director, Global Patient Safety Science will develop and maintain an expert understanding of the safety profile of the assigned product(s) as well as an understanding of the relevant strategic context (e.g., disease under study, safety profile of competitors, mechanism of action, etc.) and is accountable for oversight of benefit/risk safety profile of allocated products through the product lifecycle.. Specifically, you will be responsible for: Responsible for safety surveillance and risk management activities including, but not limited to medical review of ICSRs, routine review of safety data, and pertinent scientific literature articles. Contribute to the review of assessments for safety signals or in response to Regulatory Authority requests. Providing medical safety input into the design and conduct of pharmacoepidemiology and observational studies Plan and interpret safety data analyses, prepare and present safety data summaries to internal and external stakeholders. Acquire and contribute knowledge of relevant drug class and/or competitor safety issues. Lead the development of safety surveillance strategy, identify potential clinical safety issues, and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all key stakeholders (e.g., clinical study teams, safety CROs, business partners) which require expert contribution to the development of the product safety strategy. Accountable for risk management activities including preparation and maintenance of relevant sections of clinical trial protocols, IBs (including the reference safety information section), ICFs, DSURs, RMPs, CCDS, and labelling, as required. Contribute to regulatory authority submissions (Investigational New Drug applications, New Drug Applications, Marketing Authorization Applications, etc.). Developing response strategies in collaboration with safety committee members, providing medical-scientific input to regulatory documents for safety-related requests from health authorities and other external parties. Evaluates risk minimization strategies and takes accountability for the medical-scientific content in the Risk Management Plans, including risk minimization measures, risk minimization action plans and REMS programs, as relevant Accountable for the safety components of study reports (i.e., CSRs), aggregate reports (DSUR, PSUR/PBRER, PADER) and other regulatory documents. Participate in internal and external Data Monitoring Committees through review of safety data, insights and leadership and development of DMC Charters Reviews publications, including abstracts, manuscripts, and speaker presentations. Trains and mentors Safety Scientists Consistently comply with all governing laws, regulations, RevMed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other guidelines. Required Skills, Experience and Education: 8 or more years of drug development experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry, of which at least 4 years include prior Safety Science experience, which includes performance of medical review, safety surveillance/signal detection, and other related risk management activities. A relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD/MSc in a Life sciences discipline, or other post-graduate health professional qualifications). Mentor, and lead a high-performing Safety Science team. Excellent ability to evaluate, interpret and present scientific data with clarity. Proven success in creating and sustaining strong relationships with internal and external business partners across an organization to create positive partnerships. Experience with interacting with Regulatory Authorities (i.e. FDA, EMA) at type C, B, pre-BLA/MAA meetings, Advisory Committee meetings, or other scientific advice forums. The Biomedical Science team at Pulse is currently recruiting a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Histology to work in a busy lab in Manchester. We are looking for a biomedical scientist who can make a real difference in supporting the laboratory's cellular histology service. Suitable histology biomedical scientist who can do proficient microtomy.


What will you be doing in this Biomedical Scientist role?


Perform histological tests on tissue samples, including processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining, to prepare them for microscopic examination. Ensure all laboratory procedures comply with quality standards and regulatory requirements. Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and functioning correctly. Troubleshoot and report any malfunctions. Analyze and interpret histological slides, providing accurate and timely reports to pathologists and clinicians. Assist in the diagnosis of diseases by identifying cellular abnormalities. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all tests performed, including patient information, test results, and quality control data. Adhere to health and safety protocols to minimize risks to yourself and others. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow biosafety guidelines. Provide training and supervision to junior staff, students, and laboratory assistants. Ensure they follow standard operating procedures and maintain high standards of practice. Participate in research projects and contribute to the development of new histological techniques and procedures. Stay updated with advancements in histology. Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, providing expert advice on histological matters. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions. Manage laboratory supplies and reagents, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.


Essential Requirements for this Biomedical Scientist position:



  • Previous experience working in a UK NHS Histology laboratory is essential.

  • Relevant qualification in Biomedical Science (e.g., BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent).

  • Must be proficient in microtomy, embedding, and staining techniques.

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
