Opportunity Overview We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the Computer and Infrastructure (CIP) team. This role is pivotal in shaping the hardware architecture and infrastructure strategy for host computers across Teradyne's diverse test system platforms. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in hardware systems, provide direction and management in cross-functional environments, and a strategic mindset to drive innovation and operational excellence. This role has some hybrid flexibility however the candidate must be able to work on-site at the North Reading office. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy Guide the CIP team in defining and evolving hardware and software (OS plus Applications) requirements for host computers used in test systems such as UltraFLEX, J750, and IG-XL platforms. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software, QA, NPI, and product support to align infrastructure goals with product roadmaps. Drive initiatives like Windows, Office 365 and Visual Studio transitions as required to circumvent end of life situations. Technical Ownership Architect and validate host computer configurations to meet performance, scalability, and reliability targets. Evaluate and select CPU, memory, storage, and peripheral components based on workload profiles and system constraints. Guide benchmarking and performance assessment for new hardware platforms Participate in reviewing design documents and conducting code reviews to ensure alignment with infrastructure standards and best practices. Identify opportunities to automate manual processes within the infrastructure lifecycle, including configuration, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance. Process & Execution Define and maintain documentation for hardware standards, configuration guidelines, and lifecycle management. Oversee risk mitigation strategies related to hardware obsolescence, compatibility, and performance bottlenecks. Coordinate with supply line engineering and commodity management for sourcing and vendor alignment. Mentorship & Collaboration Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Core Job Responsibilities: Using requirements developed through multi-functional team input, design and develop computer and network architecture schemes for advanced robotic systems. Distill internal requirements into subsystem specifications for computer designs including memory, processing power, computing speeds, peripheral busses, graphics, and thermals. Understand commercial product roadmaps related to processing systems to resolve short term and long-term needs and benefits. Deliver documentation to support computer architecture decisions in medical devices such as technical reviews, test results, and theory of operations. Collaborate with multi-functional teammates to develop robust architectures driven by test and simulation analysis. Perform component and subsystem level testing to ensure conformance to design. Testing may include EMI and ESD analysis, test fixturing, and thermal analysis, in addition to other specialties for specific projects. Participate in and drive design reviews, fault safety analysis, and design FMEA analysis. Qualifications Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, And Experience: Bachelor’s in engineering (or related field) with 6+ years, or Advanced Degree in Engineering or related field with 4+ years of industry experience. Demonstrated experience architecting computer systems using both x86 and ARM architectures. Proven experience designing and developing custom computer solutions from feasibility through to production. Ability to work onsite at Santa Clara Office. Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, And Experience: Experience designing electronics in Medical or similar regulated industry. Demonstrated understanding of embedded buses and industrial network systems (PCIe, Ethernet, EtherCat, CAN, etc.). Experience using Electronics CAD (Altium, Cadence) and Thermal Simulation Tools. Experience with Linux and Real-time Operating systems and middleware, such as Ubuntu, and QNX. Understanding of specifications and implementation of GPUs and FPGAs. Understanding of software architecture and its implications on hardware design. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Opportunity Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the Computer and Infrastructure (CIP) team. This role is pivotal in shaping the hardware architecture and infrastructure strategy for host computers across Teradyne's diverse test system platforms. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in hardware systems, provide direction and management in cross-functional environments, and a strategic mindset to drive innovation and operational excellence. This role has some hybrid flexibility however the candidate must be able to work on-site at the North Reading office.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Guide the CIP team in defining and evolving hardware and software (OS plus Applications) requirements for host computers used in test systems such as UltraFLEX, J750, and IG-XL platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software, QA, NPI, and product support to align infrastructure goals with product roadmaps.
  • Drive initiatives like Windows, Office 365 and Visual Studio transitions as required to circumvent end of life situations.

Technical Ownership

  • Architect and validate host computer configurations to meet performance, scalability, and reliability targets.
  • Evaluate and select CPU, memory, storage, and peripheral components based on workload profiles and system constraints.
  • Guide benchmarking and performance assessment for new hardware platforms
  • Participate in reviewing design documents and conducting code reviews to ensure alignment with infrastructure standards and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes within the infrastructure lifecycle, including configuration, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.

Process & Execution

  • Define and maintain documentation for hardware standards, configuration guidelines, and lifecycle management.
  • Oversee risk mitigation strategies related to hardware obsolescence, compatibility, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Coordinate with supply line engineering and commodity management for sourcing and vendor alignment.

Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Represent CIP in core team meetings, sprint planning, and cross-divisional forums

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering or related field OR equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of host computer architecture, operating systems (Windows/Linux), and performance tuning.
  • 10+ years of experience developing software systems for commercial applications.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Proven track record in coordinating engineering teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working in the Semiconductor Test Industry. Prior Teradyne SW experience is a plus.
  • Able to clearly express your ideas and concepts both written and verbally
  • Driven to get the job done and are not afraid to go the extra mile to do it
  • Experience with infrastructure planning tools and performance profiling.
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle management and NPI processes.
  • Experience with the Windows Operating Systems and M365 Applications

Compensation:

The base salary range for this role is $154,400 - $247,000. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
