We understand the difficulties in extracting, interpreting, and utilizing information across images, video, metadata, and text, and we recognize the need for robust, affordable solutions. We seek to advance the fields of computer vision and deep learning through research and development and through collaborative projects that build on our open source software platforms, such as Kitware Image and Video Exploitation and Retrieval (KWIVER) toolkit. About the Projects: We consider the work that we do on our government contracts one of the ways that we give back to the community. We relish the opportunity to work on hard problems that have a direct impact on the health, safety and security of our community; our team members choose Kitware instead of working in large internet companies to sell web advertisements. One of our core values is to make the technology we develop as broadly available as possible. In This Position You Will: Be part of Kitware's overall mission of positive social impact through environmental monitoring, national and global security, ethical AI, open science, scientific computing and medical computing. Develop tools and techniques for visualizing computer vision results. Improve quality control by developing software testing infrastructure (using CMake, CTest, etc.) and writing test cases for code. Run experiments of existing algorithms on large-scale datasets with various parameter settings, collect and organize results. Develop and operate tools to label objects, activities, and events that appear in images and video. These labels are used to test and train computer vision algorithms. Required Qualifications: Currently working towards a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. (Undergraduate students currently in sophomore, junior, or senior year.) Proficiency in C++ and/or Python. Due to contractual restrictions, only US Citizens will be considered for this position. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge or experience in computer vision and/or deep learning is a plus, but is not required. Company Description: Kitware is a research and development software solutions provider with a mission to advance science, make a positive impact, and share our results all within a collaborative, employee-focused work environment that is friendly, fair, and flexible. Our work is improving healthcare outcomes, increasing national security, and advancing our national computing infrastructure. Our customers and collaborators include top universities from around the world, government organizations, national research labs, medical device manufacturers, car manufacturers, financial institutions, and many others. Guided by our leadership vision of valuing people, embracing agility, and fostering growth, we cultivate an innovative culture that empowers you to achieve your full potential. Unleash your talent and redefine what’s possible.

Job Description:

Parsons is now accepting applications for our Summer 2026 Computer Vision / Robotics Internship, supporting development of a new AI-enabled infrastructure inspection capability using drone data, 360° video, localization, and voice to transform how bridge and vertical structure inspections are captured and reported.

This internship offers an exciting opportunity to apply robotics and computer vision to real-world infrastructure, working side-by-side with an experienced mentor and a software intern. You will help integrate 360° cameras and SLAM/localization tools, map inspector motion on a simple bridge model, and prototype basic defect detection and visualization workflows.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Ingest and process 360° video, working with an off-the-shelf SLAM/localization SDK to estimate inspector position over time.

  • Develop scripts and tools to map timestamps and poses to 3D locations on a simple bridge or structure model.

  • Prototype basic computer vision routines (e.g., region-of-interest extraction, simple crack/rust/spall detection using existing models or APIs).

  • Visualize inspector paths and defect points in 2D/3D for internal review and demos.

  • Collaborate with a software intern and mentor to define interfaces between perception/localization outputs and the inspection data/reporting pipeline.

What Qualifications You'll Bring:

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field at an accredited college or university.

  • Strong programming skills in Python (and/or C++), with experience using libraries such as NumPy and OpenCV.

  • Familiarity with SLAM, visual odometry, or robotics localization through coursework or projects.

  • Comfort working with real-world sensor data (video, trajectories, etc.) and debugging noisy inputs.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • A GPA of 3.0 or higher is desirable.

  • Prior project or internship experience in robotics, computer vision, or perception is preferred but not required.

Why Parsons?Join a top-tier infrastructure and technology firm and gain hands-on experience applying robotics and computer vision to real inspection workflows. Imagine your future with Parsons—apply today!
