The DME/Cast Technician plays a critical role in patient care by assisting providers, educating patients, and ensuring proper fit and use of orthopedic devices. This position requires flexibility to travel between SOG locations and the ability to perform a variety of clinical support tasks. Key Responsibilities: Facilitate patient flow and assist providers and clinic staff with coordination of patient care, including greeting and escorting patients to exam rooms and updating medical information. Apply and remove casts, splints, dressings, sutures, and staples as directed by the provider. Maintain fully stocked cast rooms and ensure cleanliness after each patient. Verify patients’ insurance coverage for DME supplies and obtain necessary authorizations. Educate patients and caregivers on the proper care and use of casts, splints, dressings, sutures, staples, and DME products. Measure and fit DME products accurately, ensuring proper application and comfort. Educate patients on insurance plans and potential financial responsibilities. Follow up with patients experiencing difficulties with braces, DME equipment, casts, or splints. Assist as a clinical assistant and perform clinical support duties as needed. Order clinical DME supplies in a cost-effective and timely manner. Assist with pre-authorizations, pre-certifications, and referrals, ensuring all insurance documentation requirements are met. Maintain appropriate levels of casting supplies and DME inventory. Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with all HIPAA regulations. Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. 1–2 years of related experience required; casting or DME fitting experience strongly preferred. Flexibility to travel and work at other SOG clinic locations as needed. One year of casting or DME fitting experience preferred. Preferred Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to educate patients and caregivers clearly and professionally. Attention to detail with the ability to follow clinical instructions accurately. Position Summary:Specialty Orthopedic Group is seeking a dedicated DME/Cast Technician to support orthopedic care by performing casting, splinting, wound care, and the application of durable medical equipment (DME). The DME/Cast Technician plays a critical role in patient care by assisting providers, educating patients, and ensuring proper fit and use of orthopedic devices. This position requires flexibility to travel between SOG locations and the ability to perform a variety of clinical support tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate patient flow and assist providers and clinic staff with coordination of patient care, including greeting and escorting patients to exam rooms and updating medical information.

  • Apply and remove casts, splints, dressings, sutures, and staples as directed by the provider.

  • Maintain fully stocked cast rooms and ensure cleanliness after each patient.

  • Verify patients’ insurance coverage for DME supplies and obtain necessary authorizations.

  • Educate patients and caregivers on the proper care and use of casts, splints, dressings, sutures, staples, and DME products.

  • Measure and fit DME products accurately, ensuring proper application and comfort.

  • Educate patients on insurance plans and potential financial responsibilities.

  • Follow up with patients experiencing difficulties with braces, DME equipment, casts, or splints.

  • Assist as a clinical assistant and perform clinical support duties as needed.

  • Order clinical DME supplies in a cost-effective and timely manner.

  • Assist with pre-authorizations, pre-certifications, and referrals, ensuring all insurance documentation requirements are met.

  • Maintain appropriate levels of casting supplies and DME inventory.

  • Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with all HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • 1–2 years of related experience required; casting or DME fitting experience strongly preferred.

  • Flexibility to travel and work at other SOG clinic locations as needed.

  • One year of casting or DME fitting experience preferred.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to educate patients and caregivers clearly and professionally.

  • Attention to detail with the ability to follow clinical instructions accurately.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced orthopedic clinic environment.
