Job Description
A Traffic Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of traffic control measures for construction projects, special events, and other public works. The role ensures the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and vehicles, while maintaining compliance with traffic laws, safety regulations, and engineering standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF POSITION:
- Develop and review traffic control plans for projects; coordinate with city departments, engineers, contractors, and public agencies.
- Oversee staff in setting up and managing temporary traffic control (TTC) measures, including barricades, signage, and lane control.
- Ensure all work follows MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) and TTC manuals; verify permits and project specifications
- Resolve operational issues, traffic conflicts, and permit disputes; evaluate and implement new traffic control methods
- Conduct on-site inspections of TTC setups; review engineered drawings and plans
- Respond to traffic incidents, emergencies, and public safety concerns; coordinate emergency resources
- Prepare reports on traffic conditions, incidents, and project progress; maintain logs and records.
- Provide traffic control advice to the public, answer inquiries, and give directions when needed
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Follow all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
- Implement temporary work zones; utilizing warning signs, traffic cones, drums, etc. per MDOT regulatory requirements.
- Driving the company vehicle to and from job site in a safe manner.
- Managing work crews performing flagging operations and/or lane closures.
- Complying with management directives.
- Displaying a positive attitude and safety focus at all times.
- Overtime work required. Out of town or county work may be required
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary
- Must adhere to PPE (personal protective equipment) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition as supplied by company
- Assumes additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- The ideal candidate will have 3 years in public safety, traffic control, or related field
- Traffic control supervisor certification through MDOT or ATSSA
- Leadership, problem-solving, communication, and ability to work in outdoor, high-traffic environments
- Proficiency with traffic control devices (cones, barricades, signs), two-way radios, and safety gear
- Knowledge or ability to adhere to federal motor carrier safety regulations.
- Must have the ability to handle several projects at once, while maintaining tight deadlines.
- Must demonstrate excellent safety awareness, and a willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards.
- Must always wear proper attire including safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image.
- Project a positive and cooperative attitude by maintaining courteous and professional conduct with supervisors, co-workers, customers, and the public.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Must be able to provide proper documentation that you have the legal right to work in the United States.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to adapt and work in extreme weather temperatures
- The following motions will be required: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching, and squatting - these will occupy most of workday
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. for repetitious lifting while using proper lifting techniques.
