Responsible for printing, verifying and assembling the Perioperative Surgical schedule daily. Coordinate Perioperative room instrument and equipment needs utilizing Perioperative surgical schedule as directed in collaboration with dept. Supervisor and/or OR leadership team. Coordinates suitable substitutes for specific instrumentation. Coordinates room needs based on specific physician needs. Guides and assists Central Sterile and OR technicians in performing daily activities. Responsible for the daily maintenance of sterilization records. In accordance with departmental policy and procedure inspects, assembles and sterilizes all surgical and house instrumentation used throughout WVU Medicine. Accurately restocks case carts with supplies, instrumentation and equipment as indicated by surgeon preference cards generated from daily surgical schedule. Accurately restocks Surgical Services including the Outpatient Services and Labor & Delivery supply, specialty carts and top track. Stages and delivers case carts, stocking carts and equipment via clean cart lift, clean or services elevator as needed. Inventories and maintains adequate levels of all instrumentation and sterile supplies utilized throughout University Healthcare. Responsible for receiving returned items including properly recording and returning items to inventory. Responds to instrument and equipment requests from physicians. Serves as initial contact for physicians and Perioperative staff to coordinate solutions to instrumentation problems. 15 .In accordance with set policy and procedure reports and records missing and/or damaged instrumentation/equipment. Serves as initial contact for departmental inquiries from customers. Assists in the training and development of new employees. Assists other Central Sterile Instrument Technicians with daily assignments. Obtains and records accurate patient histories to include chief complaint, present ocular status, ocular history, and family history, past and present medical history, medications and allergies. Obtains and records accurate visual acuity of adult, children and infant patients. Performs Visual Field Testing, basic lensometry and keratometry. Measures and records spectacle prescriptions both manually and with automated equipment Performs basic ocular motility testing and record results. Measures and compares basic pupil assessments. Tests intraocular pressure with applanation tonometer and tonopen. Performs and record slit lamp exam Cleans and sterilizes ophthalmic instruments and maintain ophthalmic equipment. Stocks examination rooms with supplies on a daily basis, maintain clinic inventory, and ensure working order of equipment. Maintains universal precautions Moves equipment to other testing areas of the clinic or hospital Participates in educational instruction and independent study in preparation for COA Certification Under the supervision of the provider, or certified technician, may perform more advance patient testing and advanced skills in order to obtain sufficient on the job training to meet the qualifications needed to acquire the COA certification required at one year of service. Receives, cleans, decontaminates and sterilizes reusable patient care equipment, instrumentation and supplies. The position has responsibility for maintaining adequate inventory levels for all surgical/house instrumentation/trays and supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Current HSPA or CBSPD certification.

EXPERIENCE:

1.Sterile processing experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Graduate of a vocational or college Central Sterile processing program.

  1. Responsible for printing, verifying and assembling the Perioperative Surgical schedule daily.

  2. Coordinate Perioperative room instrument and equipment needs utilizing Perioperative surgical schedule as directed in collaboration with dept. Supervisor and/or OR leadership team.

  3. Coordinates suitable substitutes for specific instrumentation.

  4. Coordinates room needs based on specific physician needs.

  5. Guides and assists Central Sterile and OR technicians in performing daily activities.

  6. Responsible for the daily maintenance of sterilization records.

  7. In accordance with departmental policy and procedure inspects, assembles and sterilizes all surgical and house instrumentation used throughout WVU Medicine.

  8. Accurately restocks case carts with supplies, instrumentation and equipment as indicated by surgeon preference cards generated from daily surgical schedule.

  9. Accurately restocks Surgical Services including the Outpatient Services and Labor & Delivery supply, specialty carts and top track.

  10. Stages and delivers case carts, stocking carts and equipment via clean cart lift, clean or services elevator as needed.

  11. Inventories and maintains adequate levels of all instrumentation and sterile supplies utilized throughout University Healthcare.

  12. Responsible for receiving returned items including properly recording and returning items to inventory.

  13. Responds to instrument and equipment requests from physicians.

  14. Serves as initial contact for physicians and Perioperative staff to coordinate solutions to instrumentation problems.

15 .In accordance with set policy and procedure reports and records missing and/or damaged instrumentation/equipment.

  1. Serves as initial contact for departmental inquiries from customers.

  2. Assists in the training and development of new employees.

  3. Assists other Central Sterile Instrument Technicians with daily assignments.

  2. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.

  3. Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighting in excess of 200 pounds.
