Job Description

We are seeking a Commissioning Specialist who thrives on active job sites and takes ownership of getting building systems fully functional. This role is ideal for commissioning professionals with 3-5 years of hands-on field experience who prefer on-site testing, troubleshooting, and execution over desk-heavy design work.

If you enjoy travel, leading field activities, working directly with contractors, and solving real-world system issues, this role is built for you. Candidates actively pursuing a commissioning certification are highly encouraged to apply.

This is a field-intensive position requiring approximately 75% travel.

What You'll Be Doing in the Field

  • Lead and execute on-site commissioning activities across mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, lighting, and controls systems.
  • Support the Commissioning Agent / Lead, while independently running field commissioning for assigned systems and scopes.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning documentation, including Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD), and Commissioning Plans, in coordination with the Commissioning Agent and project teams.
  • Develop and execute pre-functional and functional performance testing, with emphasis on field execution and verification.
  • Perform hands-on testing of complex systems and integrated system operations.
  • Commission systems such as VAV, VRF, hydronic systems, domestic water, fire protection interfaces, emergency power, lighting controls, and BAS-integrated systems.
  • Identify deficiencies in the field, clearly document issues, and work directly with contractors, TAB firms, and controls vendors to drive resolution.
  • Lead or participate in field meetings, startups, and testing coordination.
  • Verify corrective actions on-site and confirm systems perform as intended.
  • Serve as the primary commissioning presence in the field, communicating results to owners, contractors, and project teams.
  • Perform limited document review only to identify constructability or field execution risks.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation, issue logs, test records, and close-out documentation.
  • Perform quality control of your own work and ensure compliance with established QA/QC procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Develop commissioning plans, checklists, and functional testing procedures for simple systems.
  • Coordinate and perform functional performance testing on more complex HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and controls systems.
  • Identify system deficiencies and assist in troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Prepare detailed commissioning reports, issues logs, system verification documentation and close-out documents.
  • Lead project meetings, representing commissioning interests, and communicate technical findings clearly.
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, and best practices for building commissioning.
  • Support engineers in data collection, issue tracking, and verification of corrective actions.
  • Work within a collaborative environment with Architects, Engineers, and Contractors. Able to foresee issues in documents that will develop into field issues.
  • Ensure compliance with established company QA/QC procedures. Individual shall perform quality control of their own work prior to giving to supervisor.
