Job Summary: The Buyer/Planner is responsible for the planning and purchasing of raw material/ingredients/packaging to support production. Analyze and review all evidence related to third-party utility damage for the purpose of determining a liable party. Job Description

Job Summary:The Buyer/Planner is responsible for the planning and purchasing of raw material/ingredients/packaging to support production. This includes managing select suppliers to ensure on time delivery at competitive pricing while managing inventory levels to prevent shortages and maximize turns.Job Duties:
  • Analyze messages from the MRP system and place purchase orders in a timely manner to meet production requirements.
  • Monitor status of open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery, including timely resolution, communication and mitigation of potential problems.
  • Expedite or defer orders as needed based on schedule/inventory changes.
  • Manage and resolve issues regarding PO to invoice discrepancies, returns and quality issues with suppliers.
  • Support junior buyers in their purchasing work as needed.
  • Lead efforts for sourcing ingredients.
  • Collaborate with internal customers to provide a high level of customer service and purchasing team support, including recommending solutions, resources and alternative supply options.
  • Researches ingredient substitution for better pricing.
  • Assists with formula pricing on current and new business opportunities.
  • Cross training with other roles in the supply chain team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Personal Characteristics:
  • Excellent organization, communication and follow-up skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of MRP concepts and systems.
  • Team management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite with strong Excel skills.

Experience:
  • Minimum High School degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience managing buyers in a manufacturing environment.   
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience purchasing in a manufacturing environment.    
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Food manufacturing industry experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in a facility that handles allergens including but not limited to: wheat, soy, egg, milk, and mustard.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • On site work day Monday through Friday as needed to accomplish required tasks.
