ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborates and coordinates with the Surgical Nurse Manager. Able to perform duties within the scope of practice in a surgical setting and work independently. Provides pre/post op recovery patient care as needed. Checks and monitors patient vital signs. Obtains lab specimens as needed. Administers medications in a safe and correct manner as ordered by the Physician and through utilization of the Pyxis system. Maintains records of medical and nursing treatments and related services executed by nursing staff through appropriate and accurate documentation and utilization of the electronic medical record. Participates in department quality tracking as delegated by the surgical manager. Works as a team member to ensure quality care to the ORHC's patients. Able to effectively communicate and act as a liaison with/between other members of the hospital team and the physicians. Responsible for regular equipment checks in collaboration with Biomed.

Position Highlights

SUMMARY: Coordinates and organizes the scheduling and day-to-day duties for the surgery/recovery department. Including but not limited to completing pre/post operative phone calls and education, assisting with pre/post op care, making surgical charts, managing orders, arranging supplies, linens, carts and equipment for room set up, and facilitating cleaning between patients. Cross trains to behavioral health clinic to assist with benefit relief on an as needed basis.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is required. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current license to practice in Iowa and/or multi-state licensure as an RN is required.
  • Iowa Mandatory Reporter training within three months of employment.
  • BLS certifications must be acquired within 12 months of employment and must be kept current throughout employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates and coordinates with the Surgical Nurse Manager.
  • Able to perform duties within the scope of practice in a surgical setting and work independently.
  • Provides pre/post op recovery patient care as needed.
  • Checks and monitors patient vital signs.
  • Obtains lab specimens as needed.
  • Administers medications in a safe and correct manner as ordered by the Physician and through utilization of the Pyxis system.
  • Maintains records of medical and nursing treatments and related services executed by nursing staff through appropriate and accurate documentation and utilization of the electronic medical record.
  • Participates in department quality tracking as delegated by the surgical manager.
  • Works as a team member to ensure quality care to the ORHC's patients. Able to effectively communicate and act as a liaison with/between other members of the hospital team and the physicians.
  • Responsible for regular equipment checks in collaboration with Biomed.
