The Propulsion Structural Engineer will contribute to the development of propulsion system components used in the motors and inverters, from a blank page to a certified product. The Structural Engineer will help optimize the designs to meet performance requirements, minimize weight and maximize robustness. Documenting the analyses, validating the boundary conditions and results by developing test plans and analyzing test data and correlating to the predictions is a key responsibility for this position. Not only do we design, analyze, build and test the motors and inverters, we also develop manufacturing tooling and validation equipment such as propeller stands, dynos, bench top test rigs. How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation: Assess, understand and challenge boundary conditions from interfacing groups Perform hand calculations and FEA to ensure product integrity at minimum weight Document analyses for internal reviews and certification purposes Evaluate need for and define requirements for coupon / specimen or bench test to support validation and verification of structure Support definition of test plans for full engine tests on test stand or on aircraft to verify analyses Collaborate with design to ensure the most efficient products are defined Collaborate with the systems and certification team to ensure certifiability of products Minimum Qualifications: Minimum 2 years experience in mechanical structure analysis: static structure, bolted joints, fatigue, rotordynamics, modal. Work shifts vary from one store to another, but generally are no less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours Promote a safe and productive work environment for Team Members and customers and adhere to Company safety training and guidelines Physical Requirements Ability to move and transfer merchandise, weighing up to 50 pounds, throughout the store. Ability to push and pull merchandise up to 2,000 pounds with the assistance of proper material handling equipment (e.g. pallet jack). Ability to occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead. Ability to frequently stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders. Ability to move throughout the store for an entire shift. Ability to safely access all areas of the store including selling floor, side lot, stock area, and register area. Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run a store (e.g. dolly, handtruck, forklift, baler, computer, cash register) (forklift and baler requirements do not apply if under the age of 18). Ability to constantly operate store equipment such as computer, cash register, and other store equipment. Ability to read, write, and count accurately to complete all documentation. Ability to utilize strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with team members. Ability to process information / merchandise through the point-of-sale system. The Propulsion Structural Engineer will contribute to the development of propulsion system components used in the motors and inverters, from a blank page to a certified product.  The Structural Engineer will help optimize the designs to meet performance requirements, minimize weight and maximize robustness. Documenting the analyses, validating the boundary conditions and results by developing test plans and analyzing test data and correlating to the predictions is a key responsibility for this position. Not only do we design, analyze, build and test  the motors and inverters, we also develop manufacturing tooling and validation equipment such as propeller stands, dynos, bench top test rigs. How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Assess, understand and challenge boundary conditions from interfacing groups
  • Perform hand calculations and  FEA to ensure product integrity at minimum weight
  • Document analyses for internal reviews and certification purposes
  • Evaluate need for and define requirements for coupon / specimen or bench test to support validation and verification of structure
  • Support definition of test plans for full engine tests on test stand or on aircraft to verify analyses
  • Collaborate with design to ensure the most efficient products are defined
  • Collaborate with the systems and certification team to ensure certifiability of products

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in mechanical structure analysis: static structure, bolted joints, fatigue, rotordynamics, modal.
  • Experience in FEA (ANSYS workbench preferred)
  • Methodical, rigorous and efficient
  • Ability to guide design team to optimize structure
  • Ability to understand structure and loads, static and dynamic
  • Good team, communication and leadership skills required.  Ability to work with minimal supervision and identify strategies to remove roadblocks is paramount.  Mental flexibility and the ability to change direction based on new information is an absolute must in our fast paced environment
  • Catia 3DX or equivalent
  • Experience with tolerancing requirements
  • Google G -Suite including drive, mail, calendar, docs, sheets, slides, charts, hangouts; slack, application lifecycle 
  • Ability to work hard to meet our ambitious goals and tight deadlines

Above and Beyond Qualifications:

  • Ability to iterate mechanical designs to reduce mass and improve robustness.
  • Strong knowledge of vibration
  • Experience with rotating machinery
  • Experience with electrical motors, inverters
