Position Summary

Guilford College’s Department of Music invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Musicology/Ethnomusicology, with a possibility of renewal. We seek candidates committed to the liberal arts model, inclusive pedagogy, and student-centered teaching.

Responsibilities: Teach six in-person courses (three per semester) for music majors and non-majors, including topics such as global music cultures, Black Atlantic musical traditions, Latin American music, U.S. Sound Cultures, Western music history, and methods courses. Additional duties include contributing to the General Education curriculum, limited academic advising, departmental service, and community engagement.

Qualifications: MA or MM in Musicology, Ethnomusicology, or related field required; PhD, DMA or ABD preferred. Experience teaching undergraduates, engaging diverse student populations, and ongoing scholarly or creative activity is valued. Instrumental or ensemble expertise is a plus.
