Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The AOPA Air Safety Institute (ASI) is dedicated to advancing general aviation (GA) safety through cutting-edge research, comprehensive analysis, and dynamic educational outreach. As a Video Producer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the quality and impact of ASI's video content across multiple platforms, with a strong focus on short-form content for social media and YouTube, as well as long-form videos, case studies, and documentaries. Your creative expertise will be instrumental in engaging audiences, supporting AOPA membership growth, and advancing ASI's mission. This role requires exceptional creativity, strong project management skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest production standards throughout the video development process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Video Production (80%)

Creates compelling aviation safety video content that resonates with AOPA members, the aviation community, industry leaders, and policymakers, broadening ASI's reach and impact.

Develops and adapts video content for YouTube and social media platforms. Demonstrates strong social media acumen and understanding of platform-specific audiences, formats, trends, and engagement strategies to maximize the reach and impact of aviation safety messaging while maintaining ASI brand standards.

Develops and refines narration/voiceover scripts that are informative and engaging, ensuring the tone, style, and message align with each video's purpose.

Upholds the highest production standards, incorporating best practices in scriptwriting, cinematography, lighting, animations, and editing, while skillfully using b-roll footage and audio elements.

Conducts meticulous pre-production planning, managing all aspects of staging, set preparation, and logistics to ensure seamless production.

Travels as necessary for offsite filming.

Maintains a high level of situational awareness across the production calendar, proactively assessing all project requirements including footage needs, resources, equipment, SME availability, and existing assets. Evaluates project milestones and deadlines, ensuring that planned or captured content aligns with the intended scope.

Identifies gaps early, anticipates production challenges, prioritizes assignments, deconflicts scheduling issues, seeks continuous improvement, and makes timely adjustments to avoid delays or rework.

Communicates proactively to keep projects on track and upholds high production standards.

Collaboration and Learning (15%)

Collaborates with senior producers who provide feedback and guidance to help refine production quality, storytelling, and workflow.

Actively contributes to team meetings, participates in planning discussions, and works closely with peers to maintain consistency in ASI's video style and messaging.

Knowledge and Skill Development (5%)

Actively seeks opportunities to expand video production proficiency, expertise, and knowledge of general aviation safety.

Develops expertise in evolving filmmaking and social media trends, audience behaviors, content formats, and recommends new approaches to expand ASI's reach and engage current and future generations of pilots.

Although this job description aims to capture the majority of the position duties, other duties may be assigned based on business and departmental needs.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated knowledge of YouTube, social media platforms, audience engagement strategies, content trends, and platform-specific formats, including Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, Reddit, and emerging digital channels.

Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, consistently meeting tight deadlines.

A collaborative team player with strong written and verbal communication skills.

A self-starter with a strong sense of initiative, urgency, and a commitment to exceeding expectations.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
