Responsible for the processing, preparation and dispensing of inpatient and outpatient IV and oral medications. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Processes, prepares and dispenses for inpatient and outpatient orders; IV, oral, and unit dose medications. This would include preparing and dispensing medications that are potentially critical and/or high expense. Prepares medications accurately and performs timely distribution to patient care areas. Follows USP and USP requirements in labeling and preparing IV admixtures, IV piggybacks, IV and IM syringes, and other aseptically prepared products. Must be tested and pass every 6 months the media fill, glove fingertip and hand hygiene and garbing to maintain competency. Will be expected to work with and help train and test all personnel that may prepare sterile compounded medications including pharmacy and nursing staff. Trained in high-risk medication preparation such as TPN, and biohazard/chemotherapy medications. Maintains hospital medication stock/inventory in the patient care areas and other departments; includes charging and crediting medications appropriately and performing medication area inspections. Participates in quality assurance logs and records as required. Performs multiple computer functions, facilitates accurate charging/crediting of medications via Cerner programming. Utilizes technical equipment such as barcode software and automated packaging software to provide accurate, safe products for patient administration. Adheres strictly to all established controlled substance protocols, policies and procedures. This would include federal and state regulations and hospital policies and procedures. Prepackage bulk medications into unit dose packages as needed. Checks and restocks emergency crash carts throughout the facility. Takes on and maintains responsibilities for special projects assigned by Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and/or Director of Pharmacy. Assists the pharmacists and others as needed for the provision of customer care, both internal and external. Facilitates in training of new pharmacy technicians and students.
