Overview
Job Description
- Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive one.
- Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking refill orders.
- Gather patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
- Stock received product and supplies and mark stickers accordingly, and keep pharmacy supplies well stocked.
- Review prescriptions that have not been picked up as requested by the department manager.
- Order product and supplies at the department manager's request and review invoices on product received.
- Log invoices as necessary and complete cash transactions accurately.
- Prepare paperwork and compile medicine for delivery orders and mail-outs at the request of the department manager.
- Coordinate nursing home medicines as necessary.
- Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification where applicable.
- Clean the pharmacy, empty garbage, and remove trash in a timely manner to ensure a clean and inviting appearance.
- Maintain the confidentiality of customers' private medical information at all times.
- Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned.
- Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.
- Report to work when scheduled and on time.
- Follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions with attention to detail.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers accurately.
- File, post, and organize materials; copy data accurately between records; and gather basic information through customer interactions.
- Guide customers and provide clear, helpful direction in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Maintain a high level of discretion and integrity when handling confidential patient information.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
- Over six months up to one year of similar or related experience preferred.
- Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law.
- Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in the pharmacy and dispensing area, including extended periods at a pharmacy counter or workstation while filling and processing prescriptions.
- Ability to count, pour, package, and label medications, and fill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision, in accordance with state and federal pharmacy regulations.
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and sharps (needles, lancets) associated with pharmacy operations and, where certified, immunization administration.
- Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties.
