Assists the Pharmacist in the preparation of prescriptions as permitted by state law. Maintains good customer service by accepting prescriptions or refill requests, processing sales and answering questions for customers. Achieves customer satisfaction by promptly processing prescriptions, sales transactions, and answering questions. Other duties include stocking and pricing over the counter (OTC) items, maintaining the OTC areas, processing clinic medication requisitions, and other duties as required by the pharmacist.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • 15% Counts, pours, and packages medication, following all prescription error prevention procedures, for review by the Pharmacist
  • 15% Enters prescription and patient information into the pharmacy computer system
  • 10% Retrieves medication from stock
  • 10% Refers medical, prescription, or other appropriate questions or phone calls to Pharmacist
  • 10% At point of sale, verifies that customer receives correct prescription(s)
  • 10% Enters sales on cash register, process payments, and bags merchandise at end of sale
  • 5% Enters refill requests in IDX, Contacts physician's office or refill hotline regarding refill authorizations
  • 5% Answers and transfers phone calls
  • 5% Move stock from storage to OTC area, follow plan-o-gram to stock shelves, label OTC products and shelves, complete OTC price changes, and change ad signs
  • 5% Any other duties as deem necessary to support clinic and pharmacy activities
  • 3% Stock pharmacy shelves and remove outdated over the counter (OTC) stock, returns, call-ins, etc. from shelves and complete paperwork for returning goods
  • 3% Assist customers in locating OTC needs
  • 3% Fronts and clean shelves, counters, bins, etc.
  • 1% Attend meetings as designated

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • TSBP Registration
  • 2+ years of retail pharmacy experience Or Completion of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Proven to read merchandise labels and invoices; to ask and answer questions over the phone; to write information on prescriptions
  • Proven ability to communicate with customers to handle complaints and problems
  • Proven to operate computer terminal for processing prescriptions
  • Proven math cash handling - able to add and subtract; able to make changes; able complete daily cash report
  • Proven to type 20 WPM
  • Stress Tolerance- Proven to receive prescriptions and ring up sales in a fast-paced environment
  • Physical stamina- Proven to work in fast paced environment, and maneuver around pharmacy
  • Proven ability to travel to multiple pharmacy locations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PTCB Certification
  • HMO and 3rd party managed care experience
  • Proven to know when to refer questions, problems, and complaints to a pharmacist
  • Proven 10 key by touch
