Working Conditions: This position frequently involves a fast work pace in a retail store setting. There is an occasional exposure to dangerous chemicals/solvents while compounding products and chemotherapy drugs. Specialty medications include prescription medications that are typically used to treat serious and often life threatening disease (cancer, hepatitis C, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis, etc.) or rare diseases. These medications are complex and may require additional monitoring, have special administration, storage, and delivery requirements. Access to these medications can be made more complex through strict insurance requirements and the high cost of these therapies. Specialty Pharmacy Patient Financial Counselor job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, securing authorization for the medication through the patient's prescription insurance, seeking copay assistance options for the patient, seeking free drug from manufacturer programs for uninsured and underinsured patients. Provides excellent customer service to communicate prescription costs and insurance requirements with patients. Follows the enterprise financial clearance and financial assistance policy and procedures. Maintains productivity, quality and customer service requirements according to department policy and procedure. This role does require a Kansas Pharmacy Technician registration with Kansas Board of Pharmacy. Technical Capabilities Pharmaceutical Computer Literacy (Fundamental Awareness): Has demonstrated a basic understanding of computers or has successfully completed training for applications that are used to support medication use processes. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.

Education and Experience:

  • Certified as a licensed technician through a certified national program and maintains continuing education requirements to keep license active.
  • Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk is preferred. If applicable, vaccination certification as required by law.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to physically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

This position frequently involves a fast work pace in a retail store setting. Must be able to handle multiple tasks (filling scripts, answering telephone, waiting on customers, etc.) every day.

There is an occasional exposure to dangerous chemicals/solvents while compounding products and chemotherapy drugs.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

PC with pharmacy software and printer, cash register, C.A.R.S. ordering system, pharmacy balance, scanner, calculator, telephone, fax, and copier.

Confidentiality:

Maintains the confidentiality of the customer's private medical information according to the HIPPA act.

Contacts:

Has daily contact with customers, general public, and suppliers/vendors. Has occasional contact with community or trade/professional organizations and federal/state governmental or regulatory agencies.
