Overview
Job Description
Seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our oncology pharmacy team. The pharmacy tech will be responsible for sterile IV preparation, non-sterile and sterile compounding, and assisting the pharmacist with the preparation and handling of chemotherapy and hazardous drugs in compliance with USP and UPS standards. Prior chemotherapy compounding experience is preferred but not required- comprehensive training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and compound sterile IV admixtures, including chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy medications, under aseptic conditions in a cleanroom environment.
- Accurately measure, mix, and label medications according to established protocols and prescriptions.
- Assist in maintaining proper inventory of compounding supplies, medications, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform cleaning and maintenance of IV hoods, cleanroom, and ante-room in compliance with USP / standards.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all compounding and preparation activities.
- Handle, store, and dispose of hazardous drugs safely and in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support pharmacist in ensuring the accuracy and sterility of all compounded products.
- Adhere to all facility, state, and federal pharmacy regulations and safety protocols.
- Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments related to aseptic and hazardous drug handling.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
- IV compounding and/or sterile compounding experience required.
- Chemotherapy preparation experience preferred, but not required training will be provided.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining sterile technique.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate syringes, vials, and compounding equipment.
- Must be able to wear required PPE for handling hazardous drugs.
