The Pharmacy Technician provides critical support in the delivery of patient care at the Santa Fe Indian Health Center. This role involves assisting pharmacists in serving a diverse patient population—including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients—and supporting specialized efforts such as COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
Location: Santa Fe Indian Health Center (SFIHC), 1700 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, with shifts typically from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct Patient Care: Greet patients in person and answer pharmacy-related phone calls.
- Prescription Processing: Assist pharmacists with the processing and filling of prescriptions.
- Inventory Management: Manage medication inventory, including ordering, tracking expiration dates, and preparing vaccine inventory reports.
- Clinic Support: Support vaccine clinics by checking patient paperwork and, if properly certified, administering vaccinations.
- Curbside Services: Assist with running prescriptions to patients during curbside delivery.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Work effectively with interpreters for patients with limited English proficiency and maintain sensitivity to indigenous cultural beliefs and religions.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Skills: Must possess technical skills directly related to servicing a pharmacy department.
- Immunization Certification: Required if the technician is to perform patient vaccinations.
- Health Requirements: Must provide written documentation of a TB test (within the last 12 months) and proof of required vaccinations, including Tdap (Pertussis) and others as per IHS policy.
- Security Clearance: Must undergo a Level 1 security investigation, which includes fingerprinting and a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) covering the past five years.
