POSITION SUMMARY

The University of Miami Health System (UHealth) is entering one of the most ambitious periods of pharmacy expansion in its history and seeks a visionary, collaborative healthcare executive to serve as its Associate Vice President, Clinical Operations for UHealth Pharmacy Services.

Serving as the Chief Pharmacy Officer's primary strategic partner, the Associate Vice President will help shape the future of pharmacy services across one of the nation's leading academic health systems. This executive will provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight across the enterprise, ensuring the safe, efficient, and patient-centered delivery of pharmaceutical care while advancing UHealth's missions of clinical excellence, research, education, and innovation.

Strategic Growth Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to help lead one of the nation's fastest-growing academic pharmacy enterprises by:

  • Leading, developing and coordinating hospital pharmacy operations Building a centralized pharmacy operation

  • Expanding infusion pharmacy services

  • Leveraging AI and advanced Epic capabilities to enhance operational performance

  • Recruiting and developing one of the fastest-growing pharmacy organizations in academic medicine

  • Leadership development for Clinical leaders to implement best practices.

  • Standardization efforts across all aspects of pharmacy practice for the system.

  • Developing key pharmacy business process models to be implemented within all the facilities.

The Associate Vice President will oversee the operational, clinical, financial, and regulatory functions of pharmacy services while advancing initiatives that improve quality, patient outcomes, operational performance, and organizational growth. Working closely with physicians, nursing leadership, clinical departments, and executive leadership, this individual will foster interdisciplinary collaboration and drive enterprise-wide strategies that strengthen pharmacy practice and expand pharmacy services across UHealth.

As UHealth continues to evolve as a leading academic health system, the Associate Vice President will champion innovation, operational excellence, and workforce development while ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. This leader will play a pivotal role in advancing pharmacy services through strategic planning, technology optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance patient care, operational performance, and long-term organizational success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Leadership & Strategic Direction

  • Provide executive leadership for UHealth Pharmacy Services, establishing strategic priorities that align with the organization's mission, vision, and long-term growth objectives.

  • Lead strategic initiatives that strengthen pharmacy operations, clinical services, infusion services, and pharmaceutical care delivery across the enterprise.

  • Partner with executive leadership to develop enterprise pharmacy strategy, expand ambulatory pharmacy services, advance new business opportunities, and support the growth of emerging pharmacy service lines.

Clinical & Operational Excellence

  • Oversee all aspects of pharmacy operations to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality medication management and pharmaceutical services across the continuum of care.

  • Advance evidence-based pharmacy practices and standardized clinical protocols that promote patient safety, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, service excellence, and medication-use processes.

Financial Stewardship & Resource Management

  • Provide executive oversight of departmental budgets, financial performance, resource utilization, and operational planning.

  • Identify opportunities to enhance financial sustainability through process optimization, revenue growth, and responsible resource stewardship.

  • Develop innovative pharmacy business models that expand revenue opportunities, optimize specialty pharmacy performance, maximize 340B opportunities (where applicable), and strengthen the long-term financial sustainability of pharmacy services.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Enterprise Partnerships

  • Foster transparent communication and collaboration across the enterprise to ensure alignment with institutional priorities.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor on pharmacy strategy, medication management, infusion services, and pharmaceutical operations.

  • Promote transparent communication and effective collaboration across the health system to ensure alignment with institutional goals.

Talent Development & Organizational Culture

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a highly engaged and high-performing pharmacy workforce.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, professional development, and service excellence.

  • Support leadership development and continuing education initiatives that strengthen organizational capabilities and prepare future pharmacy leaders.

Innovation, Research & Technology

  • Lead technology-enabled transformation initiatives, including Epic optimization, automation, AI-enabled workflows, predictive analytics, and digital pharmacy innovations that improve operational performance, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.

  • Promote research, innovation, and emerging best practices that advance pharmacy services across the enterprise.

  • Champion continuous improvement efforts that position UHealth Pharmacy Services as a leader in academic medicine and healthcare delivery.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate is a dynamic healthcare executive with a demonstrated track record of leading pharmacy services within a large, complex health system or academic medical center. The successful candidate possesses a strategic mindset, exceptional operational acumen, and a passion for advancing patient-centered pharmaceutical care through innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will be an influential relationship builder who partners effectively with physicians, nursing leaders, faculty, administrators, and interdisciplinary teams to advance strategic priorities and operational excellence. They will possess the executive presence and communication skills necessary to influence decision-making, foster alignment, and successfully lead change across a highly matrixed organization.

This leader will bring extensive experience overseeing pharmacy operations, clinical services, infusion services, financial management, regulatory compliance, workforce planning, and technology optimization. They will balance strategic vision with disciplined execution while developing high-performing teams committed to excellence in patient care and service.

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate:

  • Proven success leading pharmacy services within a complex healthcare delivery system, preferably an academic medical center or integrated health system.

  • Expertise in pharmacy operations, clinical services, medication safety, infusion services, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement.

  • Strong financial and business acumen, including budgeting, resource allocation, operational efficiency, and revenue optimization.

  • Experience leading technology-enabled transformation through pharmacy information systems, automation, analytics, and digital process improvement.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build consensus and influence across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing high-performing teams and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • PharmD required, with progressively responsible executive leadership experience within pharmacy services, healthcare operations, or a related discipline.
